We all know the classic ecchi shows with the perverted boobs and panty shots, but finding one that has a good story can be difficult sometimes. Here are the best fan-service anime that are more than just raunchy.

10. Myriad Colors Phantom World

In this world, there are supernatural entities that exist from past emotions left behind by humans, known as ghosts (also known as youkai or phantoms).

Until recently, it was believed that they were superstitions, but a certain virus spread throughout humanity that allowed everyone to see them and also affected the next generations, giving them skills that they could hone to combat these ghosts.

Haruhiko Ichijou and Mai Kawakami are a pair of ghost sealers from Team E at Hosea Academy, a school focused on sealing ghosts.

In a world where the real and the surreal are indistinguishable, Haruhiko and Mai gain new team members and set out on adventures to prove they are the greatest ghost sealers of all time.

KyoAni has always maintained the standard of what a good anime should be, the ecchi scenes that are sandwiched in there do not disappoint. However, this is far from the true enjoyment and praise that the series earns.

It is an anime that portrays life with a background plot that brings relationships closer and focuses on redemption and how broken bonds can be rekindled once again.

10. High School DxD

Issei Hyoudou is a normal hormonal high school teenager who wants nothing more in life than to follow and spy on women, hoping to have his own harem someday. One day, he comes across a beautiful girl who suddenly asks him out. Much to Issei's surprise, she turns out to be a fallen angel and kills him on the spot.

With that, his life ended and he never did anything productive again, nor did he get a girlfriend, much less a harem. However, he gets a second chance at life when the beautiful veteran Rias Gremory revives him as her servant, forcing him to join the Occult Research Club.

High School DxD is one of the most popular and memorable ecchi shows out there and for good reason. There are plenty of ecchi scenes throughout the show, but the development between Rias and Issei progresses well as they meet new angels and devils and fight to protect their city.

The comedy is above average for most fan-service anime and offers a slight progression in the story. I highly recommend watching this if you want to start the ecchi genre from scratch with a safe recommendation.

8. Haganai

Kodaka Hasegawa is transferring to a new school and wants to shake off his delinquent Yankee impression and make new friends. Unfortunately, this is all for naught as he is labeled a violent delinquent on the first day of school.

Depressed, he walks into an empty classroom after school and sees another loner, Yozora Mikazuki, a lonely girl talking to an imaginary friend in an empty classroom.

The two share complaints about how difficult it is to adapt to high school when Yozora proposes to break their status quo and make friends by creating the Neighbors' Club.

A club created for people without friends, members learn to interact with each other, play social games, and joke around like normal friends would. Kodaka will meet more and more girls who join the Neighbor's Club, forming new connections and finding friends outside of these oddities.

Haganai is one of the few ecchi anime that actually brings out a feeling that can stir your heart. Haganai focuses on the individual relationships that Kodaka creates throughout the year with the girls. The characters in the series are also hilarious and their design makes them perfect for the series.

Sena Kashiwazaki, the arrogant eroge/otaku daughter of the school principal, Rika Shiguma, the perverted mad scientist, and Yukimura Kusunoki, a cross-dressing reverse trap with absolute loyalty to Kodaka as his self-proclaimed servant, much to Kodaka's chagrin.

7. Saekano

Tomoya Aki is one of the greatest otakus who ever lived. Obsessed with collecting anime, light novels, manga, and games for years, he clings to the fascinating stories and art that make each video game incredible.

Now, he wants to take the leap to prove he's a true fan and share the same joy he feels when making a game himself.

Unfortunately, he cannot do it alone. He struggles but successfully recruits his seniors with literary skills, Utaha Kasumigaoka, to create the stories and his childhood friend Eriri Spencer Sawamura to illustrate them.

With Tomoya doing the programming and adaptation work, all he needs is something to drive his dream, something that can inspire him. One spring afternoon, he catches a flying hat and gives it to the beautiful and gentle Megumi Katou, the heroine he just needs.

Saekano brings a different perspective on the otaku industry compared to eroge writers, mangakas, and animators. An anime about video game creation is something that can bring all kinds of ideas and not just “in terms of plot”.

6. Gleipnir

Shuuichi Kagaya is a monster. That's what he believes, at least. However, he's just a high school student with an interesting ability: he can transform into a giant fighting bear.

He doesn't know how or why he got these abilities, but all he knows is that he can change into this machine of destruction at will, but he hates it. One night, while walking, he sees a burning building with a girl from his school trapped inside. He forces himself to transform and save her, but accidentally drops his phone.

When Shuuichi goes to school tomorrow, the girl he saved finds him and questions him about his powers, going so far as to push him off a building to force him to transform. She blackmails him by taking a photo and asks him to help her find other monsters, including her sister who killed their parents.

This is an ecchi show on the more action-oriented side of anime, with bits of humor coming from the ecchi scenes. The bond that Claire and Shuuichi have is strange and definitely lewd, but their teamwork and bond pushes them to discover the truth behind these powers.

Gleipnir doesn't have the classic definition of ecchi, but it will still be a great fan service for those looking for something action-oriented in an anime.

5. Prison School

Hachimitsu Private Academy is a prestigious all-girls private school that prides itself on its high standards of education and discipline. Little do the students know that there will be a major change coming to their institution.

Enter 5 humble boys walking in the heat towards their first semester at an all-girls school: Kyoshi, Gakuto, Shingo, Andre and Jo. Most of the girls are averse to talking to them because of their inexperience with boys.

Frustrated, the boys decide to get revenge by peeking into the girls' bathroom. However, their plan is foiled by the Underground Student Council, who punish them by sending them to a prison beneath the school to serve time for their perverted crimes.

One of the funniest ecchi anime ever released, Prison School is a fan favorite when it comes to crying out laughing during fan service. Not focusing primarily on themes like love, actual lewd topics, or affection, this is a gritty comedy about sadistic women whipping these poor 5 boys into shape, and the boys bonding through brotherhood as they endure these long days.

Each prison officer has his own preferences for punishment, which range from outright beatings to performing insanely obscene acts for shame and humiliation.

4. Food Wars

Since childhood, Souma Yukihira has been helping his father as a sous chef at his restaurant. Over the years, Souma has honed his culinary skills through his passion for seeing his customers smile as they eat his food using creative culinary creations. He dreams of surpassing his father and taking over the family business as a head chef.

Out of nowhere, however, his father closes the restaurant and says he needs to train more because something is missing from his cooking. He enrolls Souma in the Tootsuki Culinary Academy, the most prestigious culinary school in the world, open only to the world's culinary elite, while he is away.

The main aspect of Tootsuki is the “Shokugeki” or food war which is a battle between two chefs to see who can get the most votes from the judges.

For a shounen cooking show, the amount of fan service in this show is indescribable. Each spectacular culinary experience causes a wave of excited ecstasy in the most obscene way ever, even going so far as to show off their ripped clothes from how good it is.

The fan service in this show only serves to help enhance the comedy and ease the tension during the eating competitions, but this anime is a great story about a boy who wants to follow in his father's footsteps but finds his own way to cook and become better and better.

3. To LOVE-Ru

Rito Yuuki is a shy 16-year-old boy who has yet to confess his crush, Haruna Sairenji, whom he met in middle school. Unfortunately, this becomes even more difficult for him when a naked girl crashes and falls into the bathtub. Not only that, but Rito discovers that she is the runaway crown princess of an alien planet Lala Satalin Deviluke.

Lala does not want to get involved in an unwanted political marriage, so she falls in love with Rito, wishing to make him her husband. As Rito discovers more and more supernatural things happening around Lala, it becomes increasingly difficult for him to finally confess to Haruna.

To LOVE-Ru It’s a fun, ecchi, and slapstick comedy. This show reaches levels of fan service that I couldn’t have imagined were possible. While it’s mostly a fan service show, it does follow a decent plot and also has multiple seasons, showing how popular a series it is.

2. Kiss x Sis

In Kiss x Sis, When Keita's father remarried, he also had two older twin sisters. The mature but sensitive and homely Ako is the school's student council president and the athletic, aloof and scary Riko is the school's disciplinary committee president. Two polar opposites, but they still seem to love their new sibling a little too much.

As they have grown up since kindergarten, Keita is easygoing around them, but when he receives a potential sports recommendation to a different school than his sisters, he desperately needs to find a way to pass the exam without succumbing to his sisters' temptations.

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you one of the greatest, most well-known, and most iconic ecchi/fan-service series to ever grace anime.

KissxSis is much more ecchi than others, with little plot but plenty of comedy and a calming anime about life between three loving siblings. While there is a lot of fan service from the sisters to Keita, it shows how a family comes together best from both sides.

1. KILL la KILL

Ryuuko Matoi's father has been murdered, leading her to wander in search of his killer. Her only clue is half of his invention: the scissor blade.

She stumbles upon a strange town that is home to Honnouji Academy, a prestigious school with a deadly strict disciplinary system tyrannized by the cold and intimidating student council president, Satsuki Kiryuuin, and her four subordinates.

The school's power system works through a star system in uniforms called "Goku uniforms", which grant superhuman abilities to the wearer.

After fighting with one of the four subordinates, Ryuuko retreats to an abandoned apartment where she sees a "Goku uniform", but this time it is a "Kamui", a rare, sentient uniform also called God Clothes.

Using this uniform and the traces of it in her past, Ryuuko is now equipped with immense power and ready to face this oppressive system and follow suit to find her father's killer.

Topping this list is probably one of the first fan-service anime we watched without even realizing it was called “fan-service.” Kill la Kill is a groundbreaking shounen anime that features a powerful, headstrong tomboy who goes beyond the cheesy morals of characters like Naruto and Touma Kamijou.

In addition to a great action/adventure plot, the uniforms are perfectly made to fulfill any ecchi/fan-service lover's action anime fantasies. With an amazing "culture" and a great plot, Kill la Kill stands out as one of the greatest ecchi shows.
