15 Anime Couples of Tall Girls and Short Guys
Advertisement
Sometimes girls like short guys because who they are and not how tall are they. And the opposite can also be true, a tall girl may be insecure about towering over people, but a guy who is confident in his own skin won't mind the size difference.
If you are looking for anime series that feature tall girls in a relationship with a short guy, then scroll down.
Risa and Atsushi in Lovely Complex

Height difference insecurity in romance is such a common and age-old thing that Lovely Complex is a romance story centered around it. The series follows two people who become friends after their crushes end up dating.
Risa is an above-average tall girl and Atsushi is a below-average short boy. Despite the height difference, they actually get along very well and become fast friends. It doesn't take long for Risa to realize that she likes Atsushi, but the biggest obstacle to their romance is Atsushi's insecurity about dating a girl who is much taller than him.
Kyoutarou and Anna in Boku no Kokoro no Yabai Yatsu

While Lovely Complex centered its entire romantic plot around the insecurities between their height, The Dangers in My Heart shows this but never really acknowledges it. The cute relationship between Kyoutarou and Anna takes place in late middle school – a time when girls are generally taller than boys, but boys still have plenty of time to grow. So there’s no reason for insecurity yet, since most boys grow up later than girls.
Interestingly, while Kyoutarou isn't really bothered by how much taller Anna is than him, Anna is sometimes shown to be a bit insecure about how tall she is compared to everyone else.
Honoka and Ayaka in Witch Craft Works

Witch Craft Works tells the story of a boy who discovers that the school princess is actually a witch who has been acting as his secret bodyguard all this time.
Ayaka is not only a very diligent bodyguard for Honoka, but she also has what some might call "big mommy energy", meaning she is noticeably taller than him and also often has the princess carry him around.
Height is used for comedy here. They actually seemed to be going for “big mommy energy” when Ayaka was designed, but their romantic relationship is actually pretty cute, even if they’re probably the least interesting characters in Witch Craft Works’ bloated cast.
Tomoki and Ikaros in Heaven's Lost Property

Heaven's Lost Property will always be remembered more as an ecchi harem than a romance, but you can't have an ecchi harem anime without romance either.
Even though Ikaros is the “main girl” in this harem romance, pretty much every girl in the series is taller than Tomoki, and there are a number of reasons for this. You could say that Tomoki is short for a boy, but in reality, he’s probably pretty average height.
Tomoki looks small because:
- He often adapts his chibi form for risqué comedies.
- Several members of her harem are not actually human, thus designed taller and more voluptuous.
- His height puts him in the privileged “face in boobs when hugged” range, a must for an ecchi anime.
Kaito and Ichika in Ano Natsu de Matteru

Perhaps the height difference between Kaito and Ichika isn't that dramatic. They're quite close in height, but the series is presented with the usual dynamics you see in relationships between taller girls and shorter boys.
In Waiting in Summer, Ichika is introduced as a girl a year older than Kaito and his friends, but new to the town. They later discover that she is also an alien. As she and Kaito grow closer, she is introduced as slightly more mature, but the two share a shy and reserved attitude and slowly bond.
Haruyuki and Kuroyukihime in Accel World

Not unlike Tomoki from Heaven's Lost Property, Haruyuki in Accel World adopts a more rotund chibi form. Unlike in Heaven's Lost Property, this is how he looks the whole time. In Accel World, they were going for a chubby nerd who is frequently bullied.
However, Haruyuki showed all his enemies. Not only with the powers granted to him by the Accel World plot. He showed them by winning over the beautiful and popular Kuroyukihime, who came to love him as a person, despite his height or appearance.

Edward Elric and Winry in Fullmetal Alchemist
There's probably no quintessential tall girl, short anime couple than Edward and Winry, even though romance was a relatively small part of Fullmetal Alchemist.
While Full Metal Alchemist focuses more on its legendary action-adventure story, throughout the experience you see Edward being particularly sensitive about his height. It's often used for comedy.
However, this tale of delayed puberty actually has a happy ending - when it comes to romance, at least - in which Ed ends up being taller than Winry even. So while applicable throughout the series, the pairing is not applicable at the end of Fullmetal Alchemist, as Ed is actually taller than Winry as an adult.
Rokudo and Ranna in Rokudou no Onna-tachi

Even though Rokudo's Bad Girls is a harem about the main character obtaining the magical power to make delinquent girls fall in love with him immediately, it's trying to be wholesome about it.
He uses his power not for lust, but to help them have a happy school life, which he believes is better than delinquency.
Chief among his harem is Ranna – untamed, possessive and quite tall.
Meliodas and Elizabeth & King and Diane in Nanatsu no Taizai

A quick look at Seven Deadly Sins and you might think that the compact Meliodas would have the same kind of height insecurity that Ed has in Full Metal Alchemist. However, against all odds, Meliodas is, in fact, very secure in his short stature. He has more dire things to worry about when it comes to his body.
That said, the height difference isn't really a factor in the Seven Deadly Sins romance. In fact, the tall girl/short guy dynamic is presented even more blatantly in Seven Deadly Sins, in the romance between Diane, a female giant, and King, a fairy. While she can technically shrink down to human size, she's still taller than him even in this form.
Unlike Meliodas and Elizabeth, where they never really acknowledge their height, part of Diane's character arc is her gradually accepting her large size and relying less and less on the magic that makes her human-sized.
Livius and Nike in Soredemo Sekai wa Utsukushii Wiki

You'd think that "age difference" would be a more common reason to explain height differences in romance anime, but The World is Still Beautiful is actually the only romance series that takes advantage of it.
This series follows the new relationship between the recent world conqueror, who is still just a boy, and his new bride who has been sent from a neighboring principality to keep peace with his empire.
Nike is only a few years older than Livius and shows both her emotional maturity and her height. However, Livius is at that age where he has not yet reached his growth spurt.
Despite the age difference, the show actually does a great job with its slow-burn romance. They take things slow and allow the pair to grow closer without trying to force too much romantic progression there.
Teiichi and Yuuko in Tasogare Otome x Amnesia

The interesting thing about the relationship between Teiichi and Yuuko, I mean, besides it being a relationship between a human student and a female ghost that haunts his school, is that I can't say for sure if Yuuko is taller than him.
She's a ghost. She may be floating. However, most of the time, because she's a ghost, the show portrays her as the older partner in the relationship. She's often portrayed as a little taller when they're interacting with each other.
Still, just as some find romantic relationships between taller women and shorter men a little odd, I think a romantic relationship between a teenager and a ghost 60 years older is also quite odd.

Koushi and Athena in Megami-ryou no Ryoubo-kun.
The Mother of the Goddess' Dormitory is primarily a harem anime where a 12-year-old boy is homeless but is invited to be the janitor of a dorm full of busty college girls. Since he is literally a child, of course almost everyone there is much taller than him.
While this series could have been happy just being a raunchy harem anime, it actually develops a proper romantic element between him and Athena, a college girl.
Kei and Mizuho in Please Teacher

Please Teacher is a romance anime with many layers, and each layer is stranger than the last.
At a glance, this series follows the new romantic relationship between a teenager and his teacher. While this is quite creepy, it is mitigated by the fact that she is an alien and at first, he is just keeping her secret.
So it gets a little awkward when the principal finds out about their romantic relationship and basically forces them to get married.
A final complexity is that Kei also has a unique disease that causes his body to shut down in times of stress, but his body continues to age. So he's a fifteen-year-old boy in an eighteen-year-old's body. You'd think they would have used this to smooth out the height difference, but no. He's still shorter than his alien teacher-wife.
Chrono and Rosette in Chrono Crusade

Much like Full Metal Alchemist and Seven Deadly Sins, Chrono Crusade is an action anime that happens to include a romantic element between the main characters. This time, the romance is between demon-slaying partners Rosette and her demon contractor Chrono.
Chrono plays the resident shorty, but as a very powerful demon, that kind of rules out his major insecurity. Plus, the form he's usually in is just a less powerful child form.
While their relationship grows as the series progresses, this series isn't particularly joyful in how it all ends.
