Despite this, the Demon Lord goes to the human world to see what his archenemy is up to, only to discover that the mighty hero Max is a bum in a one-room apartment with a terrible reputation as a scumbag in the human world.
I thought this would be one of those fun “one joke” anime series, but I was pleasantly surprised by the kind of depth of plot it attempted. If you’re looking for more anime recommendations like Level 1 Demon Lord and One Room Hero, head on over below.
9. Jahy-sama wa Kujikenai!

Feared and respected by her subjects, Jahy was the second-in-command of the demonic kingdom. However, one day, a magical girl attacks and destroys the mystical jewel and, with it, the demonic kingdom.
Cast into the human world, Jahy finds her powers greatly diminished, forcing her to assume the form of a child. While she is able to briefly return to her former form with a fragment of the mystical gem, she now has to deal with real-world problems, such as paying rent and buying food, while trying to find the rest of the pieces of the broken gem.
Both Lv1 Maou to One Room Yuusha and The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated are about powerful demons who are turned into cute little girls because they only have a fraction of their power.
However, while the Level 1 Demon Lord and the One-Room Hero have that dynamic of the Demon Lord growing closer to the hero as they spend more time with him, The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated is more about her struggle to work, eat, and pay rent as she comically interacts with a few other humans in her life without most of her demonic power.
Both series are comedy anime, but The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated is less wholesome and more about modern-day struggle.
8. Jashin-chan Dropkick

The demon Jashin was summoned to Earth by an occult practitioner named Yurine. However, although Yurine successfully summoned her, she does not know how to send her back.
Now, Jashin ends up living with Yurine as her familiar. She knows that the only way to return now is to kill Yurine, but Jashin, as incompetent as he is, seems to find that no plan works.
Both Level 1 Demon Lord and One Room Hero and Dropkick on My Devil focus on evil that integrates into human society, but as a cute and relatively harmless being.
Dropkick on My Devil is a bit different because the devil is summoned there, and the comedy of the series comes from his unhappy relationship with his summoner, rather than a healthy relationship like Lv1 Maou to One Room Yuusha.
The characters in Dropkick on My Devil are also much more violent towards each other in the comedy.
7. Maoujou de Oyasumi

In order to sow chaos and discord among the human kingdom, the Demon King Tasogare kidnapped the beloved human princess, Syalis.
In an effort to rescue her, a powerful hero springs into action.
Meanwhile, trapped in the demon castle, Princess Syalis finds being held captive to be very boring. She decides to sleep while she awaits rescue, but… she can't sleep.
Cheap bedding, insomnia, and demonic snoring plague her as she tries to get a good night's sleep.
Oyasumi Maoujou is a different experience from Level 1 Demon Lord and One Room Hero in that it's about a princess who gets captured by a demon lord. However, it subverts this standard situation to make it comical and sometimes even cute, not unlike the subverted Demon Lord/Hero relationship in Lv1 Maou to One Room Yuusha.
What you get in both series is a demon lord who is kind of stepped on by a human and a human who forms a series of relationships with demons as they spend more time with them.
6. Hataraku Maou-sama!

On the verge of world domination, the evil Demon Lord Satan was thwarted by the heroine Emilia and forced to retreat through a dimensional portal.
He ends up in our modern world, where he is powerless and penniless. To pay his expenses, he gets a part-time job selling fast food.
While The Devil is a Part-Timer is more about the demon lord being sent to our world and having to work as a McJob for minimum wage, the anime progresses to where the hero actually follows him there as well. The series then becomes more like Lv1 Maou to One Room Yuusha in the positive, almost romantic relationship between the Demon Lord and the hero, though this relationship is less awkward than the romantic and threat.
Both series have a more comedic tone and follow a demon lord who has significantly neutralized power as they blend into human society. However, like Lv1 Maou to One Room Yuusha, Hataraku Maou-sama also develops a more serious plot as time goes on.
5. Blood Lad

Staz Charlie Blood is a powerful vampire who rules the eastern section of the Demon World. Although rumors say he is bloodthirsty and cruel, in reality, he is just a big otaku.
While his subordinates run his world, he spends his days engrossed in anime and manga. However, when a Japanese girl accidentally enters his kingdom, Staz is thrilled, only to be heartbroken by her untimely death.
Now Staz vows to resurrect her, but probably because it means he will go to the human world.
Just as you don't expect a demon lord to act like a housewife to his enemy, you don't expect a powerful and feared vampire in the demon world to be a great human otaku.
Both series are about evil beings helping people they should fight or at least kill due to their own interests. Although both series are comedy anime, they also have their own plots.
The biggest difference is that Blood Lad has more shounen-style action moments, but never forgets that it is in fact a comedy series.
4. Gabriel DropOut

After graduating from high school in Heaven, angels are sent to Earth to guide humans along a righteous path. Heaven had high hopes for Gabriel, the top of his class.
However, when she got down, she ended up missing her tasks and becoming addicted to online games.
Although, to everyone's surprise, Lv1 Maou to One Room Yuusha developed a deeper plot, unlike the slice-of-life shenanigans where the hero is obnoxious and the Demon Lord is kind of cute, it often comes back to being just that, and Gabriel Dropout is that too.
Both series feature the “good guys” as reclusive or lazy, while the “bad guys” work harder but suffer from chronic cuteness. Plus, they end up becoming friends.
3. Yuusha, Yamemasu

After using his immense power to save the world, Leo discovers that there is no place for a powerful hero in a world at peace. Too strong to remain in the human realms, he seeks employment in the Demon King's Army, which he has defeated and needs to rebuild.
Although the army has many problems, Leo's power is limitless, but he discovers that the demon king, who is actually a queen, has more kindly motives for world domination than he expected.
Unlike the Tier 1 Demon Lord and One-Room Hero, where the Demon Lord goes and seeks out the hero only to end up staying with him, I'm Giving Up on Heroing is distinctly different because the hero actively seeks to join the Demon Lord's army to rebuild it.
However, the biggest similarity between these two series is not only the friendship that the former hero forms with the demons, but the way the former hero is treated by humanity. He saved them all, and now human society actively shuns them for various reasons.
Essentially, both anime series provide a look at what the heroes of fantasy anime actually do when they defeat the demon lord.
2. Helck

As humanity celebrates the defeat of the Demon Lord at the hands of a lone human hero, the Demon Realm prepares for the competition of its life, where it will decide the next Demon Lord.
Demons from all over the realm appear to test their power, but among them marches a single human – Helck.
While Helck displays his indomitable power throughout the three-month tournament fights, he also displays his compassion for his opponents as he proudly proclaims his hatred for humans, winning over the crowd.
As Helck becomes the frontrunner to become the next Demon Lord, things don’t go well for Red Vermilio, one of the Four Heavenly Kings of the Demon Realm. She believes Helck has ulterior motives and sets out to find out what he’s up to. However, something sinister is brewing in the Human Realms…
Both Level 1 Demon Lord and One Room Hero and Helck focus on powerful human heroes who befriend demons. In Level 1 Demon Lord and One Room Hero, the demon lord becomes the hero's friend and roommate, while in Helck, the hero travels to the demon realm to become the new demon lord.
The biggest similarity between the two is how they progress. They start out very comedic, but actually develop a more serious plot around world politics. However, Helck has more action, even if that action is often resolved quickly by comedic power.
1. Maoyuu Maou Yuusha

After fifteen years of war with the demon world, the Hero is dissatisfied with their advancement and rushes to the Demon Queen's Castle. There, he not only meets a beautiful woman who is the queen, but she needs his help.
To his surprise, she offers a way to help not only his country, but hers as well. Together, they join forces to make this dream a reality.
Both Level 1 Demon Lord and One Room Hero and Maoyu are about a hero who forms a positive relationship with the demon lord who is, for one reason or another, a girl.
The biggest difference here is that while Level 1 Demon Lord and One Room Hero threaten to become one, Maoyu is, from the start, a romance anime.
Both series are about trying to stay out of world politics or trying to improve the world situation to end the war between humans and demons. Level 1 Demon Lord and One Room Hero start off very lighthearted and remain comedic, while Maoyu is more serious throughout, but not without its moments of levity.
