At this year's Anime Central Convention, attendees got some interesting behind-the-scenes insights into the creation of Celestial Illusion anime.
During the Production IG panel, anime director Hirotaka Mori shared how the acclaimed video game THE The Last of Us influenced the art direction of the series.
Mori, who is a fan of The Last of Ussaid that the game's post-apocalyptic world and atmospheric visuals left a profound impact on him.
He was so captivated by the game's art that he purchased the art book to use as reference for the game's art direction. Celestial Illusion.
The Last of Us is an action-adventure video game series and media franchise created by Naughty Dog and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment.
The game series has received critical acclaim and won numerous awards, including several Game of the Year awards; the first game has been cited as one of the greatest video games ever made, and the second has won over 320 Game of the Year awards. The series was directed by Hirotaka Mori, with scripts written by Makoto Fukami, character designs by Utsushita of Minakata Laboratory, and music composed by Kensuke Ushio.
Celestial Illusion is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Masakazu Ishiguro. It has been serialized in Kodansha's seinen manga magazine Monthly Afternoon since January 2018, with its chapters collected in 10 tankōbon volumes as of February 2024.
