HUNTER x HUNTER author's health worsens

On September 3, Yoshihiro Togashiauthor of 'HUNTER x HUNTER' he shared a worrying update about his health status on his official Twitter account. Despite successfully submitting the new color manuscript of his popular manga, Togashi confessed that his back pain worsened considerably during the process. The mangaka expressed his gratitude to his followers for the support he received, but also acknowledged that his physical condition had worsened.
«Thank you all, I was able to deliver the colored manuscript to the publisher. I received warm messages of encouragement, words of concern and felt your support. Thank you very much. However, my back pain has definitely worsened.», wrote the author.


This update comes a day after Togashi posted a message comparing his fragile back to a Jenga game about to collapse. «Feeling like the bones around my spine are a Jenga game about to collapse, I started coloring again. Will I finish coloring first or will my back give out? Stay tuned for my post tomorrow. (upper back pain)», he said in his publication of September 2.


On August 31, Togashi reported significant improvement after receiving treatment, but explained that his back pain was due to the posture he adopted when working on the color illustrations, which was different from the one he used for the black and white manuscripts. It was only after someone pointed out this difference to him that the author realized the impact it had on his health.
The long-awaited sequel to 'HUNTER x HUNTER' will return to the pages of Weekly Shonen Jump in the next issue on October 7, 2024. This will be the first new chapter in almost two years, since the manga went on hiatus after the publication of chapter 400 in December 2022. After the publication of this chapter, Shueisha decided that the series will no longer follow a strict weekly serialization format in order to accommodate Togashi's health needs.
Previously, Togashi revealed the possible endings of 'HUNTER x HUNTER' on TV Asahi's variety show Iwakura and Yoshizumi if he was unable to complete the manga before his passing. The author shared three different endings for the series, called A, B, and C, each with different levels of fan satisfaction.
