In case you don't remember, “Angel Beats!”It is an original anime that mixes action, comedy and drama, and follows the story of a group of young people in a kind of school limbo after death. Towards the final episodes, the characters begin to accept their past and find peace, allowing them to disappear and “graduate” from this world. The remaining members decide to hold a symbolic graduation ceremony, recognizing the growth and relationships they have built.
It is revealed that Kanade Tachibana, known as "Tenshi", had the heart of Yuzuru Otonashi, the protagonist. Before he died, Otonashi donated his heart and Kanade was the recipient of it. For this, Kanade was waiting to thank him, but he died before she could do so. One by one, the characters find peace and disappear. Finally, only Otonashi and Kanade remain. Otonashi confesses his love for Kanade and asks her to stay with him in that world, but Kanade reveals that her wish was to thank him and, after doing so, disappears as well.
In a post-credits scene, two figures resembling Otonashi and Kanade are seen in the real world, suggesting that they were reborn and reunited, though this is not explicitly confirmed. Now, you probably already knew all of this, right? But did you know that there is a manga that explains what happened before this reunion?
You have the right “Angel Beats! Spin off!! Tabisuru Tenshi-chan” and is published by Yuuya Sasagiriwhile the synopsis writes:
- This spin-off focuses on Tachibana Kanade, also known as Tenshi, the heroine of the anime “Angel Beats!”. During his journey, Tenshi stops in Kanagawa, where he meets an energetic and cheerful girl named Yuri Nakamura. Yuri is surprised to learn that the purpose of Tenshi's trip is to find a boy who appears in his dreams, although he does not know his name or face. Despite Yuri's initial disbelief, Tenshi is firmly convinced of this boy's existence, and her search takes her all over Japan, visiting places such as Fukuoka, Kagawa, Yamanashi, Osaka, and Okinawa.
It is clear that the person Kanade is looking for is Otonashi, so this manga is chronologically set between his rebirth and their eventual reunion. It’s definitely a must-read for fans of “Angel Beats!” who were left wanting more, as it also shows the other characters and what happened to them after they were reborn.

Unfortunately, the manga has an extremely slow serialization, mainly because it has been serialized for a year and has just released its first compilation volume.
