Mushoku Tensei author reacts to controversy

The recent episode of “Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation” generated intense debate among fans, especially regarding the actions of Rudeus Greyrat and Roxy Migurdia. The main controversy centers on the relationship that arises between Rudeus and Roxy, considering that the latter is already married and expecting a child. This development has been polarizing, with many fans expressing their discontent and others defending the narrative.

But what does author Rifujin na Magonote think about all this? As fans know, the author often shares comments on the development of the story during the broadcast of each episode, and there was no shortage of them in the most recent one:

  • «Rudeus himself, being a former Japanese, does not consider polygamy to be a good thing. However, in this world, people who do not belong to the Milis Religion do not consider polygamy to be a particularly bad thing (this varies by race and region).».

  • «That said, the 'Mamoritai Mono' ending… The next episode will be a battlefield! Thank you for your hard work!».

  • «Stories like last week's, while shocking, are common, so I can remain calm. However, I understand that this week's episode will be difficult for some people to accept, which worries me, as I want the story to be accepted by as many people as possible.… I have a stomachache».

  • «In the script meetings I also thought about 'how to get more people to accept the story'. I became a difficult writer because I insisted on imposing my own desires, which are not something an author should consider. I thank and apologize to the people who participated in the script meetings.».
  • «I have things I want to say, but there's no point in justifying myself too much, so I'll get back to my work.».

In his comments, Magonote acknowledges that although Rudeus, being originally from Japan, does not see polygamy as a positive thing, in the world of “Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation” perceptions vary according to region and religion. He also admits that these types of stories may not be accepted by all viewers and expresses concerns about how to make the story more acceptable to a wider audience.

But of course there was no shortage of comments from Japanese fans:

  • «Poor Sylphiette, she has such bad luck.».
  • «The unluckiest one is Eris».
  • «To think that Sylphy will also accept this just because Zenith was happy is really disgusting. Elinalise is also trash».
  • «Saying that polygamy is okay because it's another world is a bit weird. At least, letting the protagonist do it doesn't sit well.».
  • «Roxy only fell in love at first sight, so she should forget about it. Why did Elinalize have to say unnecessary things?».
  • «Rudeus usually acts like he's a good person, but he regularly has hysterical outbursts. His character bothers me. I hate him as a person.».
  • «That's why they used Paul as a precedent».
  • «Will his sister really accept him? His parents are like this, and the brother he trusted goes back to work with another woman. Won't he isolate himself again?».
  • «He should follow Kirito's example, who has been faithful for over 10 years.».
  • «Well, it's just fiction, so I ignore it.».
