Black Butler Manga Goes on Hiatus as Author Prepares for Climax

Yana Toboso Black Butler The manga will go on indefinite hiatus starting with the August 2024 issue of Square Enix's monthly magazine G Fantasy.

The August issue is scheduled to be released in Japan on July 18, 2024.

This announcement was made on G Fantasy magazine's official X account on June 18, 2024.

In a statement included in the announcement, Toboso explained that the hiatus is necessary to allow her to conduct research and prepare for the manga's upcoming climax. The author's full statement can be read below:

To all who support Black Butler,

Thank you very much for always supporting Black Butler. This time, I will be taking a slightly longer maintenance break! Since my debut in 2004, it will be 20 years in 2024. I have been able to continue working without serious illness or rest for so long thanks to your warm support.

During this period, while taking good care of my mind and body, I will be conducting the necessary research and preparations for the climax of Black Butler. I deeply apologize to everyone who has been eagerly awaiting the monthly serialization. I will be back in top condition, so I would appreciate it if you could wait a little longer.

The exact date of Black ButlerThe return of is unknown at this time. However, G Fantasy will republish previous chapters during the hiatus.

As for the resumption of serialization, we will announce it in the monthly G Fantasy magazine once it is decided. Also, during the hiatus starting from the next issue, we plan to reprint previously serialized chapters of Black Butler. Thank you for your understanding.

Black Butler is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Yana Toboso. It has been serialized in Square Enix's shonen manga magazine Monthly GFantasy since September 2006.

A 24-episode anime television series adaptation produced by A-1 Pictures aired from October 2008 to March 2009. A 12-episode second season aired from July to September 2010; this season introduces two new main characters and has an anime-original storyline that features no manga content.

A third season, titled Black Butler: Circus Bookwas broadcast between July and September 2014.

A fourth anime season produced by CloverWorks, titled Black Butler: Public School Arc, premiered in April 2024.

A two-part theatrical original video animation (OVA) titled Black Butler: Book of Murdershown in Japanese theaters in October and November 2014. A live-action film adaptation was released in Japan in January 2014. An animated film, titled Black Butler: Book of the Atlanticpremiered in Japan in January 2017.
