Of all the romantic comedies that still exist in the manga world, this is definitely “Sleep Doll Bisque wa Koi wo Suru (My dear dress up)” is one of the most relevant at the moment. The story of Marin Kitagawa and Wakana Gojo rose to stardom after the anime adaptation aired in 2022, but there has never been any news about the production.

However, while waiting for news on the project's promised sequel, the manga has been moving forward at a slow pace with monthly updates on a new story arc thatunlike the cheerful and romantic atmosphere that characterized the franchise, Now it shows drama and sadness for the two protagonists of this relationship.

After a successful performance by Marin Kitagawa in a Haniel costume made by Wakana Gojo in the development of the “Mandate of Heaven Arc,” what should have been a period of happiness for the two became a journey towards complete depression. Marin ended up getting an offer to join a professional modeling and cosplay agency (which obviously doesn't involve Gojo), while Gojo had an inexplicable reaction to the whole thing.

In fact, Gojo doesn't even know that Marin received this proposal (mostly because she didn't tell him anything), and there aren't many clues as to where his sadness comes from. He even made comments pointing out that he had hoped to become a professional hina doll maker before his grandfather's death, something that gave Marin a reality check: helping her cosplay was taking him away from that goal.

The return of Non-chan, the girl who traumatized Gojo by telling him that “he was weird for liking girl things,” was finally seen in the latest chapter. And here comes another revelation: it turns out that Non-chan took care of Gojo in the days after his parents' death, but it was only when he met the Hina dolls that Gojo finally got his smile back. Eventually, it was the same passion for hina dolls that separated Gojo from Non (and the rest of the people as well), which explains her rejection of his hobby.

And that's where the trending panel comes in, showing Marin Kitagawa crying at the entrance to her house. When Gojo and Marin arrived at the former's house, they met Non-chan and her mother, who asked Gojo if he had been practicing enough to achieve his dream. Gojo admits that he didn't have time, and Marin immediately associates this with the fact that he is helping her with the cosplay. This makes her sad, she lies saying that she has to go to work and goes home to cry.

All this exaggerated drama would definitely be resolved if the two of them sat down and talked.and fan comments made this known:

  • «Western readers or readers infected by their cultures keep complaining that the characters don’t sit down and talk about everything. First of all, Asians grow up with a different perspective and values than you do. Grow up and use the internet properly and surf even more to learn about other people and cultures. Secondly, how the hell do you expect the author to finish the story in one sitting and have everyone talk about their problems? This is a serialized manga, not a meeting in a mental hospital.».
  • «So Non-chan really cared about him. But her childish mind went crazy with jealousy over Hina dolls. Now I wonder what the author will do about it. It seems like the progression tries to make Marin doubt and distance herself, while Non-chan tries to reconcile and reconnect with Gojou. A new romantic rival and a new cosplayer too».
  • «No, that's not it, it's taking forever for them to talk face to face and we keep waiting months for it to happen and it's still not happening. The author is dragging out this shitty depression phase of both of them and it's getting boring, we were promised a happy ending from the chapter where Marin decided to confess and it would have been a happy ending if she just did it or if maybe by some surprise Gojo did it first or something. But no, let's add a shitty drama after 100 episodes of romance and comedy and slow things down for a few more months, let's skip this for a few months honestly or even wait for it to end because it's torture to wait for the monthly release just to end on a bad note chapter after chapter».
  • «I'm getting tired of this author's bullshit. It's been like this since chapter 100. Cycle of emotional stagnation, what's more annoying is that it takes months to publish the new chapter, all because of the same shitty scenario. Having Non-chan in the scene doesn't help either. I can tell the author is cooking, but she's cooking so slowly. What are you cooking, perpetual soup? If only there was a way to travel to the future and read this shit in one go.».
  • «Well, we all did stupid things when we were kids. Non-chan didn't forget what she said. If she had, she would have been angrier. But anyway, it doesn't matter, this is exactly what we were waiting for. That Non-chan came back and found Gojo accompanied by the ridiculously cute Marin. I wish we could have seen a little more of her reaction.».
  • «The commenters below put it best, but it's been a while since I've been excited about a new chapter. At this point I'm still reading out of loyalty.».
  • «I like the story like this. Romance and drama. I don't really like cosplay, so when the last chapters explain all the details about cosplay, I almost always skip the dialogue.».
  • «Aahh the breaks are making me lose interest… I've reached the limit of a thousand mangas in my library and there are so many manhwa sites too where I have stuff to read. However, I keep going because I want to know the ending, but… damn, it's taking forever.».
  • «The pacing is not Fukuda's strong point. As much as I like manga, the chapters are just as long and intense as a normal weekly manga, but this one is published monthly... I understand that you don't kill yourself working, but damn».
  • «Oh… So she was there to help him back then. She did the best her young mind could at the time… Only to be replaced by a “doll”… And now she’s back, and somehow he’s still there. Working on those same dolls and with a “living doll” by his side too. This is going to get interesting.».
  • «I'm a little reluctant to continue reading this title, since I've been following it since chapter 31. But the pace has become a bit passive. But the pace has become a bit passive, and I understand that it's for drama and all that, but the problem is that there are chapters that are so short and with less impact, as it was before.».
  • «I bet the editor said to try to make it as long as possible because this is a weird drama and the Akira fan was just filler to make it longer.».
  • «I know the author said this is a cosplay manga and she doesn't want to focus on romance, so why the hell is she shooting herself in the foot by putting in all this unnecessary drama. The worst part is that the chapters don't seem to take us anywhere, especially since this is a monthly/biweekly manga.».
