Myths behind the production of demonic tapes.

There has been a lot of talk about curses surrounding films with supernatural themes, such as Nosferatu, The Blair Witch Project and the most popular, The Exorcist, This time we are going to analyze a film where Russel Crowe once again wears a cassock to fight demons, but this time as an actor who plays a priest in a film with many macabre events.

Exorcismo

The Exorcist film suffered several production problems, among which it stands out that it was filmed since 2019 and no distributor wanted to take it and take it to theaters, until the premiere of The Exorcist Del Papa, which gave a little push to Crowe and the horror theme with the actor, only then did she turn to see.

The general idea is as follows, a film is being shot about an exorcism, Anthony Miller (Rosel Crowe), an actor with a dark past, who will replace the main actor of the film since he suffered an "accident" on the set, and despite all the warning and protection against evil spirits, little by little the situation becomes more murky, until it gets out of control.

Exorcismo

This is director Joshua John Miller's second feature film, but he is no stranger to the medium, as he is an actor and writer of series and films of various genres, this time he opted for horror and suspense, something that was not as good as we expected, and here is why.

Although the plot seems good, there are many gaps in the story. We will see, over several well-defined days, the production of the film and the catastrophes surrounding it. Between these days of filming, there are time jumps that prevent connections with the characters and it seems rushed. Some ideas about the protagonists' past are left in the air and are somewhat confusing, and prevent each of them from having better development and formation.

Exorcismo

Between flashes, thoughts and images from the past, it becomes confusing whether they could be hallucinations, whether they are real and above all they prevent us from seeing the true nature of Anthony and his daughter, as well as their relationship, we would have liked to see a little more of the development of both to generate greater empathy, it is as if there were a prequel or the already famous director's cuts.

The script leaves a lot to be desired and does what it can, it has some memorable moments that will give some bounce, but it needs more context and plot.

Darkness and demons in production.

What we have to admit is that the scenery, the play of lights and sounds, is quite impactful, lights flashing, sounds produced by the actors, total darkness, and the production of the production (the stage built for the film inside the tape) made us shiver in our seats.

The makeup is good but it doesn't stand out among films of the genre, although it seems more natural and less fantastical, the performances were quite ok, if it weren't for Crowe who acts as a drugged and alcoholic character that slightly lifts the entire film I would be lost, although it seems that this character was made without much will, the music doesn't stand out but the sound is quite impressive, who wouldn't be scared to hear prayers in the dark?

Exorcismo

Conclusion:

Exorcism is a movie that seemed good but falls short, it has its pros in some things, but it still owes a lot, it seems like it lacks scenes or more production time, is it scary? only in the classics jump scares and unexpected, loud sounds.
