Crunchyroll disables comments on the platform and users are not happy

In an effort to create a safer and more respectful community environment, Crunchyroll has announced that it will be disabling user-generated content, including comments and reviews, across all of its platforms.
This decision was met with a mix of disappointment and criticism from the platform's dedicated user base.
According to Crunchyroll, removing comments and reviews is part of its ongoing efforts to improve the user experience.
“We are hiding all existing user-generated content, including comments and reviews, across all of our platforms and experiences. We are always striving to improve the user experience for our fans, including how they connect with the content they love. We encourage fans to share comments and connect with other fans on our social media channels.”, the company said.
However, the user rating system remains intact, allowing fans to express their opinions through star ratings.
The decision sparked an outcry among Crunchyroll users, who took to various social media platforms to express their frustration.
Many users expressed that the comments section was a vital aspect of their viewing experience, a place where they could share their excitement and connect with others who shared their interests.
With the new update, they felt that the feature that set Crunchyroll apart from other platforms was lost.

While Crunchyroll has not explicitly stated the reason behind this drastic measure, users have speculated that the decision may have been prompted by recent incidents involving toxic comments, particularly in relation to recent LGBTQ+ anime.
They argued that this could have been addressed with more effective moderation rather than a complete shutdown of the commenting feature.
However, not everyone shared this opinion, as there were users who enjoyed this attitude due to the increasing toxicity in the comments sections of yaoi/yuri anime.
