Detective Conan: The Million Dollar Pentagram Becomes the Highest-Grossing Film in the Franchise

The 27th feature film of Detective Conan anime series, titled Detective Conan: The Million Dollar Pentagram, set a new box office record. The film amassed a remarkable 9.77 million viewers and grossed 14.01 billion yen in just 45 days.

The film thus surpassed the record of the 26th feature film, entitled Detective Conan: Black Iron Submarine (2023), which grossed 13.88 billion yen.

This feat makes Detective Conan: The Million Dollar Pentagram the highest-grossing film in the franchise's history.

Detective Conan: The Million Dollar Pentagram arrived in Japanese theaters on April 12, 2024.

The film achieved the second-highest opening weekend gross for an anime film, surpassing the opening weekend gross of the film JJK 0 (2.6 billion yen).

It also surpassed the opening day numbers of the 26th feature film with a significant increase of 112%.

The film also surpassed 10 billion yen in just 22 days after its release, marking the first time in Japanese anime cinema history that a franchise has reached 10 billion yen for two consecutive films.

Twenty-seven feature films based on the Case closed series were released. They are animated by TMS Entertainment and produced by Yomiuri Telecasting Corporation, Nippon Television, ShoPro, and Toho. The first seven were directed by Kenji Kodama, films 8–14 were directed by Yasuichiro Yamamoto, films 15–21 were directed by Kobun Shizuno, film 22 was directed by Yuzuru Tachikawa, films 23 and 24 were directed by Chika Nagaoka, and film 25 was directed by Susumu Mitsunaka.

Detective Conan, is a Japanese detective manga series written and illustrated by Gosho Aoyama. It was serialized in Shogakukan's shōnen manga magazine. Weekly Shonen Sunday since January 1994, with its chapters collected in 102 tankōbon volumes as of September 2022.

Due to legal issues with the Detective Conan name, the English releases from Funimation and Viz were renamed to Case closed.

The anime version of Case closed is produced by Yomiuri Telecasting Corporation and TMS Entertainment. Over 1,000 episodes have aired in Japan since the anime's premiere on January 8, 1996, making it the fifteenth longest-running anime series to date.
