Pokémon was once again in the sight of many, as a curious clip of the series in its French dub was shared on social networks such as Twitter/X in which the Pokémon type of water, Star, appears in an overly “fantastical” way. Of course, this fact took many by surprise and, along with their comments, more than one cried over how comical the dubbing was, even when compared to H-type animations.
French dub of Pokémon's Starmie causes controversy on social media

These types of events are very common in series dubbing, and over the years there have been cases where, with plot circumstances that have nothing to do with anything “rikolino”, voice actors from all over the world have added their personal details, regional style and exaggeration. This is usually done to subtly break the ice in a boring scene, fill in gaps in awkward pauses in dialogue, emphasize comical situations for the audience or simply without any explanation for a curious confusion.
This is the case of Star of Pokémon in the French dub of episode 93 (Bye Bye Psyduck or Goodbye, Psyduck) in which Marina, the water trainer of the Orange Archipelago, brings her Pokémon so that together with Misty's Golduck they could rescue the others who were kidnapped by Team Rocket. But when he appeared, Star (Staross in French) surprises everyone with his dubbing voice that resembles a scene that has nothing to do with a series originally intended for another audience.
And it is in a time jump to the battle he has with Misty's Golduck in which, again, he starts making these sounds while using thrusts and launching his attack ability "Bubbles" doing it with much more effort in that action. That's why the situation went from a simple battle, but crucial in the plot, to becoming totally hilarious and comical for those who see it suddenly and without knowing why it sounds like that.

The anecdotal and funny moment was shared by the user @Charilord from the social network Twitter/X accumulating hundreds of comments of all kinds, always alluding to this curious fact. Some of them are: “I don’t want to imagine when I use a water jet…”; “It has to be a joke”; “Imagine if the battle was against Vaporeon”; “I’ll have to watch the series in French, he says XD”; among many others. In addition, others took the opportunity to compare it to H-type animes, where these types of sounds are much more frequent, thus providing one of the most viral moments of the Pokémon of recent times.
For those who don't know Pokémon is a media franchise that originally began its journey with a role-playing video game from the company Game freak and distributed by Nintendo which spread its great popularity to other media such as: anime series, films, manga, card games and merchandising among others, managing to highlight its brand worldwide. The anime series, a parallel story to the original video game, premiered in 1997 and, to this day, continues to be broadcast with a new season released last year.
