Gege Akutami, the author of Jujutsu Kaisen manga, recently revealed the reasons behind the delay in introducing Yuta Okkotsu, the protagonist of the prequel Jujutsu Kaisen 0in the main series.

In a comment that came to light during the course Gege Akutami's 'Jujutsu Kaisen' Exhibition in Shibuya, Akutami explained the initial plan he had for JJK.

This involved Gojo Satoru guiding the main protagonist Yuji Itadori and introducing him to other characters from Jujutsu High.

Akutami considered Gojo's role as a mentor crucial to the development of the story.

However, prior to the serialization of Jujutsu KaisenAkutami's editor, Mr. Katayama, suggested simplifying the narrative by omitting Yuta from the beginning. Akutami agreed with this suggestion and decided to delay Yuta's introduction.

This likely allowed Akutami to streamline his narrative and focus more on the new protagonists – Yuji, Megumi, and even Nobara.

With Yuta's late entry, Akutami also began to establish Jujutsu Kaisen 0initially serialized in Jump GIGA, as a separate, almost mythical work, within the JJK universe.

Although he was mentioned in the first few chapters and appeared on the cover of one chapter, Yuta only made a proper appearance after the Shibuya arc, in chapter 137 – after the conclusion of the manga's first major saga.

Despite choosing to delay Yuta's entry, Akutami emphasized that removing Gojo from the narrative was never an option.

He compared this to a situation where My Hero Academia would have been without All Might, a central character in that series.

Gege Akutami revela por que ele introduziu Yuta no final do mangá

Gege stating Gojo's importance to the story may come as a surprise to readers who have always speculated that the author hated the character.

This wasn't the only important suggestion Katayama made for the manga. In fact, the manga's name – Jujutsu Kaisenwas also something that was suggested by the editor. This was revealed during Akutami's interview with Mando Kobayashi.

It is also believed in the fandom that including Nobara in the story and creating a main trio was also the editor's suggestion.

Jujutsu Kaisen The manga, which began serialization in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump in 2018, is believed to be in its final stages.

Akutami revealed during Jump Festa 2024 that the manga will end in 2024. However, an official announcement of the final arc has not yet been made.

As of July 2024, the manga chapters have been collected into 27 tankobon volumes, with over 90 million copies in circulation.
