Ghost in the Shell announces its return for 2026

A press release from Bandai Namco Filmworks announced that the “Ghost in the Shell"will have a new television anime that will premiere in 2026 in Japan. The most important detail is that the studies SARU Science will be responsible for the production of this new anime provisionally titled “The Ghost in the Shell". The series maintained the cyberpunk theme that characterizes the franchise, but with 3DCG animation that most people didn't like.

The franchise has inspired several anime adaptations, most by Production GIstarting with a successful film in 1995 under the direction of Mamoru Oshii. Ghost in the Shell Synopsis
In the year 2029, the city of Niihama has become a technologically advanced metropolis. Thanks to major advances in cybernetics, its citizens can replace their limbs with robotic parts. The world is now more interconnected than ever, and the city's Public Security Section 9 is responsible for combating corruption, terrorism, and other dangerous threats in the wake of this shift toward globalization. The tenacious Major Motoko Kusanagi of Section 9 leads a case involving a mysterious hacker known only as “Puppet Master», which leaves a trail of victims stripped of their memories.
Like many in this futuristic world, the body of the Puppet Master It is almost entirely robotic, giving it incredible power. As Motoko and her subordinates track down the enigmatic criminal, other parties—including Section 6—begin to get involved, forcing her to confront the extremely complicated nature of the case. Pondering a variety of philosophical questions, including the meaning of her own life, Motoko soon realizes that the one who will provide her with these answers is none other than the Puppet Master himself.
