Studio Ghibli, a company recognized by animation lovers around the world, is synonymous with some of the most successful anime films in Japanese history. However, according to Hayao Miyazaki's son Goro Miyazaki, the Studio Ghibli team must remain wary of competing animators in the industry.

Recently, the Cannes International Film Festival awarded an honorary Palme d'Or to Studio Ghibli, a historic achievement for the company and a first for Cannes, which until then had only awarded the prize to individuals and not to organizations or groups. Although Hayao Miyazaki himself was unable to attend, Goro Miyazaki traveled overseas to receive the award on his father's behalf.

As detailed by Yahoo! News Japan, Miyazaki briefly commented that his father is already thinking about his next film. However, he also stated that his father will not disclose details about the project: “He won't tell anyone. He will never say this. Even at this age, all the artists around him are his rivals, whether they are younger than him, the employees who support him, whether they are inside or outside the company.».

Hayao Miyazaki's concerns are not unfounded, as plagiarism is a legitimate concern for artists in any major industry. Furthermore, Studio Ghibli's iconic status makes it an even greater target for competitors in the animation world. In particularthe creator of “Mobile Suit Gundam”, Yoshiyuki Tomino has publicly called on the next generation of Japanese animators to “crush” Miyazaki’s empire with their own creative efforts. «Everyone, please work hard to crush Miyazaki! I can't do it anymore“Tomino declared. «Young creators shouldn't take this lightly. They can't surpass Miyazaki or One Piece without really putting in the work.».
