Renowned video game designer Hideo Kojima took to his official X account to express his admiration for the film adaptation of Tatsuki Fujimoto's anime. Look back.

In a series of tweets, Kojima called Look back one of the most remarkable animes of the last decade, highlighting the film's ability to evoke strong emotions.

“Look Back is one of the most remarkable anime of the last decade. I wrote reviews about it. The original work was also amazing”, he tweeted.

Kojima went on to share the deep impression the film left on him, praising the anime's rich expressions and sensitivity, going so far as to suggest that it surpasses even some live-action films.

“I was deeply moved! The tenderness, the kindness, the strength! Such rich expressions and sensitivity, surpassing even a live-action film! I was moved by the present and future of entertainment! Anime is truly amazing. I've already ordered Tatsuki Fujimoto's original manga and can't wait to 'look back'.“

Look back anime film released in Japanese theaters on June 28, 2024, and grossed over 227 million yen in its first three days.

Studio Duran is in charge of producing the anime film, while Kiyotaka Oshiyama will direct, handle the script and also the character designs. Look back.

The director had previously suggested that he intends to create the Look Back film differently from the manga.

Look back is a Japanese web manga written and illustrated by Tatsuki Fujimoto. It was published in Shueisha's Shonen Jump+ in July 2021.

Fourth-grader Ayumu Fujino regularly draws four-panel manga for the school newspaper and is praised for having the best art in the class. One day, her teacher asks her to give one of her manga spots in the school newspaper to a slacker named Kyomoto. When Kyomoto's manga appears next to Fujino's, it receives much praise for its detailed art, making Fujino furiously jealous.

Refusing to be defeated by someone who barely attends school, Fujino dedicates herself to learning how to create manga. As time passes, however, her goal of outshining Kyomoto seems to grow further and further away, and Fujino, now in sixth grade, eventually gives up and stops making manga.

Graduation day arrives, and Fujino is asked to deliver Kyomoto's graduation certificate to her. By chance, the two end up coming face to face, and their unexpected encounter will end up having consequences far beyond what either of them could have anticipated.
