The anime adaptation played a pivotal role in the dominance of “Jujutsu Kaisen.” Last year's half-year ranking, for example, put "Blue Lock" in first place, with more than eight million sales. "Chainsaw Man" came in second, with almost four and a half million. Although “Jujutsu Kaisen” and “Sousou no Frieren” are currently in a two-horse race, the ratings will likely be very different by the end of the year, as both “Sousou no Frieren” and Shogakukan’s “The Apothecary Diaries” have been placed on hold. While the latter will return this summer, “Sousou no Frieren”’s hiatus is indefinite.
Both were favored by their anime adaptations, as was “MASHLE: MAGIC AND MUSCLES”, whose average sales increased tenfold thanks to the second season. While it's unclear how long "My Hero Academia" and "Jujutsu Kaisen" will continue, later volumes typically generate strong sales, and "Jujutsu Kaisen" will likely end in 2024, according to its creator, Gege Akutami. As always, the strong reception of “One Piece” among fans will likely push the series closer to the top spot by the end of the year.
Fans of many of the manga series mentioned above have a lot to look forward to when it comes to anime adaptations. “Jujutsu Kaisen” will get a sequel at an unconfirmed date. “Blue Lock” and “The Apothecary Diaries” will return to television in October 2024 and sometime in 2025, respectively, and “MASHLE: MAGIC AND MUSCLES” was recently announced to return for a sequel.
