Kaiju #8: The 12 Most Powerful Kaiju in the Manga (So Far)

Kaiju #8 contains a lot of Kaiju, which may seem obvious. But out of all the ones that have appeared, which monster reigns supreme?

This was truly one of the most brilliant ideas of Japan Anti-Kaiju Defense Force: Taking the remains of the Identified Kaiju and transforming them into powerful weapons that can replicate their specific abilities. However, wielding the Number Weapons is no easy task, as has been shown time and time again throughout the story. But how do these kaiju-fighting tools compare?

5 Numbers Gun 4

Wielded by Kikoru Shinomiya

A verdadeira aparência de Kaiju nº 4 e Kikoru usando a Arma Numérica 4.

This is actually a family heirloom, as the weapon was created with the body of Kaiju #4 was originally exercised by Hikari Shinomiyaonly to be later inherited by his own daughter, Kikoru Shinomiya. Weapon 4 of Numbers still holds some of the memories of its previous user, which manifest in the form of Hikari's ghost.

This weapon functions as a suit that gives its user great speed and even the ability to fly with 2 insect-like wings. This is quite impressive and practical, and the Number 4 Weapon was a key element in Kikoru's fight against Kaiju #15. However, it hasn't been featured much and its powerset – while useful – isn't as creative or interesting as the other numeric weapons in the series.

4 Number Gun 2

Wielded by Isao Shinomiya

A verdadeira aparência de Kaiju No. 2 e Isao usando a Arma Numérica 2.

Kaiju #2 was supposedly one of the strongest and most fearsome monsters to ever attack Japan, so only the strongest of soldiers could wield the weapon that was made from his remains. And this was none other than the Director of the Defense Forces, Isao Shinomiya. The combat suit and two gauntlets that made up Weapon Number 2 were his exclusive equipment.

Kaiju #8: 9 Strongest Defense Force Members, Ranked

The Defense Force in Kaiju No. 8 has many soldiers. But which of them are among the best of the best in Kaiju combat?

Thanks to Numbers Weapon 2, Isao could not only use advanced combat power, but he could also unleash incredible sonic attacks and massive energy emissions. This was more than enough to deal with Kaiju No. 8 in its strongest form, and is one of the reasons why Kaiju #9 aimed at Isao to absorb his powers. And when he did so, the antagonist even told No. 2 that he would finally “return to the Kaiju side”. It’s a shame that humanity lost this weapon.

3 Number Gun 6

Wielded by Leno Ichikawa

Kaiju nº 6 e Leno usando a Arma Números 6, que foi feita com seu cadáver.

Leno Ichikawa Leno was by Kafka's side from the beginning and proved himself to be an efficient soldier from day one. But as the story progressed, Leno was slowly left behind in terms of power, so he needed something that could make him truly useful in battle. The answer was the legendary Number Gun 6which was created with the remains of Kaiju #6, the so-called “King of Kaiju”. This pseudonym, along with the monster’s design, led fans to realize that this was a blatant Godzilla reference.

The Numbers Weapon 6 is a battle suit that gives Leno the ability to summon walls of ice that can freeze Kaiju instantly. And considering that the cold has always been an important strategy for dealing with these gigantic monsters, this means that Leno is now a key player in the Defense Forces army. Mastering the Numbers Weapon 6 took a while, but in the most recent arc of the manga, Leno was finally able to show Kafka and the others just how powerful he had become.

2 Numbers Gun 1

Wielded by Gen Narumi

Uma visão do Kaiju nº 1 dentro da mente de Narumi, e Narumi desenvolvendo novos poderes para a Arma 1 dos Números.

As the seventh captain of the First Division Gen. Narumi is considered one of the strongest fighters in all of Japan. So naturally, he has the honor of wielding Numbers Gun 1: A combination of a battle suit and a pair of monster retinas. As expected, this is quite different from the other weapons, as it does not have any battle abilities.

These manga series are the ideal read for fans of Kaiju No. 8, a diverse story filled with characters and monsters with interesting abilities.

Instead, it allows Narumi to identify his enemies' weak points and even predict some of their moves by reading electrical signals in the air. To make things even better, he has even managed to develop these abilities to read the movements of electrons and changes in the terrain, which has given him true foresight. Ultimately, Weapon Number 1 is an invaluable asset that perfectly complements Narumi's inherent fighting skills.

1 Number Gun 10

Wielded by Soshiro Hoshina

Um gigantesco Kaiju nº 10 ataca Hoshina, e Hoshina usando a Arma Números 10 com força total.

Most of the numerical weapons in Kaiju #8were created before the story began, so they were all made from the remains of different kaiju that readers were only told about but never saw before their deaths. The only exception to this rule so far was Number Gun 10which was created with the remains of one of the previous antagonists of the series, Kaiju #10.

No. 10 was an extremely imposing opponent, so it only makes sense that it would result in a truly powerful weapon. It was transformed into a battle suit with a long tail-like appendage that was wielded by none other than the Third Division's vice-captain, Soshiro Hoshina. Weapon Number 10 was a valuable asset in the intense fight against Kaiju #12 which, in turn, was supposed to be a finalized and improved version of Kaiju #10.

Hoshina was seen as inferior for most of his career in the Defense Forces because he specialized in melee weapons and could barely use firearms. Even though he showed how skilled he really was many times, Weapon Number 10 finally leveled the playing field for him. With the help of No. 10's powers—combined with his own relentless talent—Hoshina became a force to be reckoned with. What's even better is that this weapon retained some of Kaiju No. 10's personality, which gave him and his new owner a fun dynamic and some very exciting character development.
