The following contains spoilers for KonoSuba Season 3 Episode 6, “A Farewell to This Lavish Lifestyle!”, now streaming on Crunchy Roll.

After mistakenly dying early in the battle and misusing the Divine Treasure of body swapping, Kazuma has finally run out of ways to remain in the castle with Princess Iris. Even so, he cannot leave yet, not before stealing the Divine Treasure as per Eris' request. With Chris leading him, Kazuma sneaks into the castle to take the treasure before Iris can come to any harm.

The end of the Princess Iris storyline coincides with a surprisingly action-packed sequence, showing Kazuma at his smartest and strongest. Along with that, there are still plenty of laughs throughout the episode, making for a fun, hilarious, and emotional ending to this little arc. Of course, there are still a few episodes left before the season finale, so the best is yet to come.

Kazuma's despair

Kazuma's latest antics with the body-swapping Divine Treasure clearly cross the line, and now even Iris is upset with him. Add to that his growing infamy due to his slovenly display as a guest at the castle and failure to distinguish himself in his attempts to capture the thief or defend against the Demon King's Army, and Kazuma is essentially the laughingstock of the royal capital. The final nail in the coffin is driven by Claire, who has even more reason to dislike him than ever before.

Sobbing in his bed, Kazuma suddenly hears the sound of stones hitting his window and looks outside to see Chris, who once again begs him to join her in searching for the Divine Treasure in the palace. Kazuma admits that the body-swapping Divine Treasure exists, but does not think it will do any harm. Chris then explains that if one of the bodies is killed after the body swap, the swap will become permanent. In other words, the Divine Treasure could be used to swap bodies indefinitely, essentially allowing the user to achieve eternal life. Shocked, Kazuma resolves to tell the palace, but Chris warns against it, as if the nobles found out what the Divine Treasure could do, they would begin trying to find ways to misuse it.

Kazuma goes into a rage

Ultimately, Kazuma and Chris decide to sneak into the castle to steal Princess Iris's necklace by disguising themselves in new clothes, with Kazuma wearing the mask that Vanir gave him. After quickly establishing who is the leader between the two, Kazuma and Chris successfully infiltrate, but an indiscretion by Kazuma leads to the two being discovered. Fortunately, they are easily able to evade the guards with a combination of Kazuma's magic and Chris's thieving skills.

Eventually, they are confronted by more royal guards, with Claire and Rain at the forefront. Chris immediately tries to escape, but Kazuma, knowing that he will be expelled from the capital, insists on going forward, motivated by concern for Princess Iris, with whom he had bonded during his week in the capital. He suddenly begins fighting the guards, eliminating Claire and several guards with Drain Touch alone. Enhanced by the unique properties of the mask, Kazuma easily makes short work of them and Kyoya Mitsurugi, who appears midway to help. They make their way past the remaining guards and into the princess's chamber, where Darkness stands guard. Darkness immediately recognizes them, but Megumin, Aqua, and Iris do not. With Claire and Mitsurugi coming from behind, Kazuma and Chris decide to risk everything and attempt to use Steal on Iris while escaping. Chris and Kazuma manage to steal the necklace, narrowly escaping the clutches of the princess's guards.

Time to go

A firm farewell between friends

KonoSuba S3 E6 Darkness pune Chris e Kazuma

After the theft, Darkness immediately finds Chris and Kazuma and physically coerces them into demanding an explanation. Kazuma then reveals that while Chris managed to steal the necklace, he ended up stealing Iris's ring. Darkness tells Kazuma that it is the ring that Iris was supposed to give to her fiancé, and even having it means he risks being killed. Soon after, Kazuma and his group explain the situation behind the necklace to the princess, who begins to believe that the thieves infiltrated the place to help her. Kazuma sees this as a chance to confess to being the thief in order to impress Iris once again, but when Iris expresses her admiration for the silver-haired thief, whom she mistakes for a boy, Kazuma resolves to keep quiet after all.

As Kazuma's group prepares to leave, the princess bids her final farewell. Darkness encourages Iris to give Kazuma some words of encouragement, and after a brief fight with Megumin, asks Kazuma to visit her again sometime. Back home, Kazuma is distraught at having to be separated from Iris, while back at the castle, Iris internally reveals that she actually knew the thief was Kazuma, and hopes he will keep the ring safe, as whoever defeats the Demon King will be offered the chance to marry the princess.

In a post-credits scene, we see Alderp abusing one of his servants. It turns out that Alderp was the one who originally possessed the Divine Treasure, and he is furious to discover that it has not only been stolen, but also sealed away. While it's unclear what the rest of the season will hold, it's clear that Alderp will play a major role in its events.
