'REAL' is not a conventional sports manga; it addresses issues of disability and the complexities of wheelchair basketball, which sets it apart within the sports genre. However, adapting this work represents an artistic and economic challenge for any studio that decides to accept it. Takehiko Inoue is known for his realistic and detailed illustrations, characteristics that are extremely difficult to replicate in animation.

During the MAPPA x Madhouse x CloverWorks ConferenceFukushi, who has worked on projects such as 'One Punch Man' and 'Sousou no Frieren', expressed his excitement about bringing 'REAL' to the screen, highlighting Madhouse's intention to realistically capture the essence of Inoue's art. However, this raises a crucial question: is it possible to faithfully translate the visual style of manga into animation?

Adapting 'REAL' would not only require a huge dedication of resources and skills, but would also involve maintaining a delicate balance between visual animation and narrative structure, while respecting the original source. This balance could significantly increase production costs, given the level of detail required to do justice to Inoue's art.
