During the event Aniplex Online Festival A new promotional video for the film's sequel has been revealed, “Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica: Walpurgis no Kaiten“The video confirms this. The premiere is still scheduled for winter 2025 in Japanese theaters. (i.e. the last few months of next year), after having recently been postponed.

The original anime premiered during the season of Winter-2021 (January-March) and had twelve episodes. After two compilation films, the third, entitled “Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica: Hangyaku no Monogatari” It served as a direct sequel upon its release in October 2013.

Seven years later the spin-off “Magic Record: Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica Gaiden", in Winter-2020 with a total of thirteen episodes. A second season of eight episodes followed in Summer-2021and a four-episode third season in Spring-2022. However, this was all a spin-off, not a direct sequel.

Production team

• Yukihiro Miyamoto (Puella Magi Madoka Magica, Arakawa Under the Bridge) is responsible for project management in studies STEM.
• Gen Urobuchi (Psycho-Pass, Suisei in Gargantia) is responsible for writing and supervising the scripts.
• Junichirou Taniguchi (Kimi no Na wa, Prison School, Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun) is responsible for the chief animation direction and character design, under the supervision of Akiyuki Shinbo.
• Yuki Kajiura (Sword Art Online, Kimetsu no Yaiba) is responsible for composing the soundtrack.

Synopsis of Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica

Madoka Kanami and Sayaka Miki are normal high school girls with normal lives, but that all changes when they encounter Kyuubey, a magical cat-like creature, and Homura Akemi, a new transfer student. Kyuubey offers them a proposition: he will grant any of their wishes, and in exchange, each of them will become a magical girl (mahou shoujo), gaining the power to make their dreams come true.

However, Homura Akemi, who is already a magical girl, encourages them not to accept the offer, stating that it is not as good as it seems. This is a story of hope, despair and friendship, about the difficulties of becoming and being a magical girl, and the great price that must be paid to realize a dream.
