The spring 2024 anime season has nearly reached the halfway point, and it’s been a fun ride so far. As always, isekai is well represented, with eight shows airing in the current lineup. Unsurprisingly, they all feature powerful protagonists to some degree, with each character ranked among the strongest fighters or mages in their respective universe.

Despite being a common criticism of isekai anime, overpowered main characters are also part of the reason these types of stories are so successful. They provide a (sometimes) lighthearted escape from reality, allowing viewers to watch an “ordinary” guy or girl rediscover themselves as a hero, much like in the fantasy stories of old. Still, who is The most OP isekai anime protagonist of spring 2024?

Let's look at some criteria for this discussion:

5 Rudeus (Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Season 2 Part 2)

Powerful Wizard

While most isekai protagonists simply receive overwhelming powers, Mushoku Tensei makes Rudy work for it to some extent. Due to his circumstances, Rudy began developing his magic at a young age, allowing him to grow exponentially and far exceed the norm. By the time he begins attending Ranoa Magic Academy, the protagonist is a prodigy and one of the strongest human magicians in the world, as well as being a competent swordsman due to his father's training.

Rudy's strength lies in his proficiency in multiple types of magic, allowing him to use most elements and support skills rather than just specializing in a single section. He is also quite intelligent and knows how to use his strengths to minimize his weaknesses. As talented and capable as he is, Rudy is only overpowered when compared to other humans, and is nowhere near the level of Mushoku Tenseigods. Additionally, he is generally useless in a non-magical fight, as he cannot increase his physical abilities.

4 Gobrou (Re: Monster)

Ogre King

Having reached the top, Gobou has fully embraced his new life as a goblin, especially when he realizes that he can learn new abilities by consuming monsters. This ability is actually a remnant of his previous life as a human, though it has more benefits in a fantasy world that utilizes MMO-style mechanics. In just 20 days, Rou acquires powers such as pyrokinesis, multiple languages, and foresight, and these are just the tip of the iceberg.

The more powerful Rou becomes, the stronger the enemies he can defeat, essentially putting him on a one-way path to becoming the ruler of this world. Despite being only about a month old, he can already exterminate human armies without breaking a sweat. If he'd rather not get his hands dirty, he can simply summon skeletons; alternatively, he can hurl spears at enemies from a safe distance.

Most importantly, Rou has no qualms about taking advantage of his unique power-up technique. He can be cruel and ruthless, which sets him apart from most others. The strongest isekai protagonists of spring 2024.

3 Rimuru (That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 3)

Demon Lord

Same as Re: Monster's Rou, That Time I Got Reincarnated as a SlimeRimuru learns new abilities through absorption, a slightly less crude process that ultimately serves the same function. As he has been around for some time in the anime, Rimuru has amassed a much more impressive array of abilities, to the point of defeating a Demon Lord and taking his place in the hierarchy. The latter allowed Rimuru to evolve into a demonic slime, greatly enhancing his basic abilities such as regeneration and Haki.

Rimuru currently has access to four Ultimate abilities that effectively contain his most powerful and important abilities. Raphael is arguably the most important, as he analyzes situations for Rimuru, granting him a tactical advantage. Raphael also allows Rimuru to make the most of Uriel, an ability that grants the protagonist dominion over an entity, provided he understands it.

All set, Rimuru is ashamed majority creatures in his universe; however, he has his limits. As far as Demon Lords go, Rimuru is among the weakest members of the order at the moment. While he can hold his own against most of them, the protagonist would lose convincingly to the likes of Guy or Milim.

2 Shin (The New Gate)

High Human

Comparing their abilities in the void, Gobrou and Rimuru are undoubtedly stronger than The new gateis Shin; however, the latter is more overpowered in his universe. As the biggest player of an MMO that trapped its users, Shin took it upon himself to eliminate the final boss, allowing everyone to escape. Unfortunately, not only is he an exception, but he is also teleported 500 years into the future of this world.

While still technically at the same level as before, Shin's stats have been significantly boosted during this process, transforming him from a powerful character into an overpowered one. The Spring 2024 isekai protagonist is so wrecked that he easily defeats a level 800+ monster (with some minor and seemingly unnecessary help from an NPC ally). As a slow-paced slice-of-life story that focuses primarily on light-hearted adventures, The new gate doesn't go out of his way to show off Shin's power, but his small demonstrations almost always provoke shocked reactions in everyone around him.

1 Flio (chilling in another world with level 2 cheat super powers)

THE most powerful isekai anime protagonist of spring 2024 Flio is from Chilling in another world with level 2 cheating super powers, and it's not particularly close. Hailing from a fantasy realm, Flio is summoned by an otherworldly human kingdom to act as their hero; however, as he seems powerless, he is dismissed and effectively sent to die. Once alone, Flio manages to level up, unlocking his extraordinary potential as he gains infinite stats, while also gaining the ability to learn magic through sight. From that point on, Flio is untouchable, a fact he proves by defeating one of the world's most powerful demons before the protagonist even knows what he's doing.

As a pacifist who only wants to be alone with his wolf wife (Fenrys) and a few platonic female friends, Flio keeps his abilities hidden most of the time, using them only in dire situations. One such event occurs when Hiya, an extremely powerful djinn, kills Fenrys; in response, Flio reverses time and destroys Hiya while negating his magic. In this universe, djinn are immune to physical harm, but the protagonist defeats one of the strongest members of the species simply by punching him.
