The light novel franchiseMakeine: Many lost heroines!” experienced an impressive increase in digital sales during the month of August, surpassing the previous month's figures by more than ten times. This success was directly attributed to the broadcast of the anime adaptation, which began on July 13 under the production of A-1 Pictures.

“Makeine: Too Many Losing Heroines!”, written by Taki Amamori and illustrated by Imigimuru, follows the story of Kazuhiko Nukumizua high school freshman who considers himself a "background character" with a minimal social life. However, his peaceful existence is disturbed when he witnesses Anna Yanami, his popular classmate, being rejected by her childhood friend at a family restaurant. This event drags him into the complicated romantic drama of Anna and two other girls: Lemon Yakishio, an outgoing athlete, and Chika Komari, a shy member of the literature club.
The premise of the story focuses on Nukumizu, who, despite being an introvert who prefers to stay out of the spotlight, becomes involved in the lives of these three “loser heroines” or “Makeine”. These girls failed to become their crush's romantic interest, and now Nukumizu must deal with her new, complicated reality.
The anime's debut caused a great stir, achieving prominent positions on streaming platforms such as ABEMA and dAnime Store, where it reached first place in several categories. Additionally, the series attracted attention on social media, trending on Twitter, which significantly contributed to the increase in sales of the original light novel.
This phenomenon is not uncommon in the anime industry, where the adaptation of a written work can revitalize and exponentially increase its popularity. In the case of “Makeine: Too Many Losing Heroines!”, the anime helped introduce the story to a wider audience, who turned to the light novels to further delve into the story of Nukumizu and the losing heroines.
The anime's continued success could further boost sales of the light novel, and the franchise's popularity is expected to continue growing in the coming months. Fans are eager to see how the story of these charismatic and complex heroines will unfold, as well as the impact Nukumizu will have on their lives and vice versa.
- «Now that you mention it, sales of the source material in July were about ten times higher compared to June… No wonder the stock was sold out.».
- «I also contributed to this 10x increase. I was thinking of buying it after the first season of the anime ended, but in the end I ended up buying all the volumes, including the specials.».
- «When they say 'digital sales', they mean e-book sales».
- «So August sales will be 100 times higher and September sales will be 1000 times higher.».
- «They may decrease if they are completely depleted.».
- «Multiplying it by 10 is incredible. Is it possible that it will sell that much before the anime even ends?».
- «It seems that popularity continued to accelerate in August, so it probably sold even more».
- «Sales of the original material are soaring, albums are at the top, they will definitely give the green light for a second season».
- «From the beginning they put in a lot of effort, it seems like they were already thinking about a second season».
- «But since online streaming sales are low and it's Aniplex, I'm not sure if there will be a second season. Also, the story from volume 4 onwards might not please viewers, although the ending of volume 4 is spectacular.».
- «Looking back, there were a few series that seemed to gain momentum but ultimately didn't get a second season.».
- «I wish A-1 Pictures would continue with '86: Eighty-Six'».
- «Since they have been reaching the weekly number one spot overseas and gaining popularity, perhaps they are making money from online streaming.».
- «The number of copies printed usually includes the manga.».
