That said, Isao is not an irrational man. He remains open to changing his mind, as long as there is evidence to support it.
Isao is also one of the strongest members of the Defense Forces. He is so powerful that he can wield weapons made from Kaiju (some of the strongest Kaiju ever). With these weapons, Isao is nearly unstoppable. Even Kafka has trouble facing him in Kaiju form. Although he may seem distant, Isao cares deeply for his daughter and the fate of society. Kaiju No. 8 Isn't the First Anime to Feature Western Music
Fans are excited that Kaiju No. 8 will feature music from Western artists, but it's not the first anime to use Western music in its OPs and EDs.
Iharu Furuhasi is a brazen young officer with a flair for the dramatic. He is constantly on a mission to prove his worth, while ensuring that no one else can outdo him. Furuhasi is fiercely competitive (especially when it comes to Reno Ichikawa) and does not take defeat lightly, but this ruthless ideology comes in handy during combat.
Furuhashi always stands his ground, no matter the consequences. He never wants to be the reason someone gets hurt. Sometimes this can put him in greater danger, but he feels it's worth taking the risk if it means someone else can survive another day. Furuhashi isn't the strongest officer in the Force, but he's determined to stand out from the crowd.

Reno Ichikawa is Kafka Hibino's unlikely close friend. Since Reno was present when Kafka became a Kaiju, he became Kafka's inadvertent confidant. Unfortunately, this also means that Ichikawa has also become Kafka's guardian. After all, it's usually the younger Ichikawa who keeps the older Kafka in line and safe.
Despite this unequal dynamic, Ichikawa doesn't seem to mind in the long run. He is happy to fight alongside Kafka, and even feels a certain bond with Kafka after having been through so much together. Much like Furuhashi, Ichikawa can sometimes become quite competitive, but it is all in the name of becoming stronger for the Force. Ichikawa is a pure-blooded hero. He vows to become the strongest officer he can be so that he can protect those he cares about the most.

Gen Narumi is the Captain of the First Division of the Defense Forces and one of its strongest members in the Kaiju #8. Narumi's unleashed combat power surpasses even that of Captain Ashiro. Despite his immense power, Narumi does not take his position as seriously as others would like. To Narumi, the only importance he gives to a soldier is whether he achieves results. Without proof of strength, titles and accolades mean nothing to him.
While he is ruthless on the battlefield, Narumi is quite lazy in his everyday life. He prefers to play video games tirelessly and does not spend his money wisely. When his subordinates visit his office, they usually find a way to distract him so they can throw away as much as they can before he notices. Narumi is comically inept in his spare time, but this juxtaposes perfectly with his unyielding combat skills.

Kikoru Shinomiya is something of a child prodigy in the Defense Forces. At only sixteen years old, Kikoru is the strongest of all the younger officers, and her combat power almost matches that of Vice-Captain Hoshino and Captain Mina Ashiro. Shinomiya strives for perfection, which means becoming the strongest and best officer she can be. Kikoru is under a lot of pressure from her father, Director General Isao Shinomiya.
As the daughter of the Director General, Kikoru feels compelled to be better than everyone else, but she is not cruel. Kikoru has a soft spot for Kafka and his situation—especially after he rescued her from Kaiju No. 9. Kikoru is not afraid to make her own decisions and speaks her mind loudly. She stands up for what she believes in. However, she maintains a fierce loyalty to the Defense Forces and anyone else who will bring down the demons that killed her mother.

REVIEW: Kaiju No. 8 Episode 3 – Anime Antics & Foot-Dragging Bog Down A Promising Story
Kaiju #8 takes its first misstep in episode 3, padding the material with stock characters while avoiding real introspection.
Soshiro Hoshina is the surprisingly agile Vice-Captain of the Third Division. He loves a good laugh. He even makes sure that Kafka will be a cadet in the Defense Forces so that he can keep laughing at Kafka. When it comes time to fight, few can match Hoshina's immense skill. While most of the Defense Force fights with firearms, Hoshina remains true to his family heritage and wields blades. Hoshina can do more with blades than most other Officers can with weapons, making him one of the most skilled members of the Defense Forces.
Despite his prowess, Hoshina still feels the need to prove himself. He has been told many times that the age of blades is over, but he stands firm in his convictions. He is also fiercely loyal to Captain Ashiro, as she was the only person who believed enough in his abilities to give him a chance. Hoshina is a great character due to his dedication to his craft and his cheerful attitude amidst the chaos.

Kafka Hibino is the protagonist of Kaiju #8, and the best character in the series. Despite countless rejections, Kafka never gives up on his dream and eventually achieves his goal at the age of thirty-two. Kafka is dedicated to the promise he made to Mina Ashiro when they were children and intends to prove to her that he is a man of his word. Kafka is also a fearless hero, who bravely gets involved in dangerous situations - especially when the lives of his friends are at risk.
On the other hand, Kafka is also a lovable idiot. Outside of the Defense Force's objectives, Kafka doesn't take himself too seriously. He knows how to laugh at himself and criticizes the other recruits just to be silly. Kafka also makes a lot of unintentional gaffes, but these happy mistakes are what make him all the more likable. Kafka is a natural hero who easily endears himself to both his comrades and the public.
