An early premiere of the anime film adaptation of Tatsuki Fujimoto's Look Back was held in Tokyo on June 1, 2024. During the event, director Kiyotaka Oshiyama surprised attendees by revealing the intense dedication and grueling schedule required to complete the project.

Recounting his last-minute efforts, Oshiyama explained that he was still working on the film until the afternoon of the day before its premiere.

He also said he had been at the studio for about two and a half months, often working late into the night. The film's completion came so close to its premiere that he was only able to return home and sleep in his own bed for the first time in months the night before the event.

It was an extremely tiring time, like doing a tough triathlon every day. It was so exciting every day that even now I can't feel it's over. I thought I could finally feel it's over with everyone watching today. I kept drawing until yesterday afternoon and it was finished last night. I was at the company for about two and a half months. Finally, I went home last night and slept in my own bed. I think I accumulated a bit of a sleep debt..

Due to her busy work schedule, she didn't have time to prepare for the event and had to rush out to buy new clothes as she had nothing suitable to wear.

I was drawing until yesterday afternoon. I had this event today, but I didn't have any clothes to wear, so I ran out and bought some in the afternoon. Everything I'm wearing is new.

Some fans noted that this should not be surprising, as Oshiyama was neglecting most of the work, including the script and character designs for the film.

One day, her teacher asks her to submit one of her manga to the school newspaper for a struggling student named Kyomoto. When Kyomoto's manga appears next to Fujino's, it receives much praise for its detailed artwork, making Fujino furiously jealous.

Refusing to be beaten by someone who barely attends school, Fujino dedicates himself to learning how to create manga. As time passes, however, his goal of surpassing Kyomoto seems to grow further and further away, and Fujino, now in sixth grade, eventually gives up and stops making manga.

Graduation day arrives, and Fujino is asked to deliver Kyomoto's graduation certificate to her. By chance, the two end up coming face to face, and their unexpected encounter will end up having consequences far beyond what either of them could have anticipated.
