Pokémon: 10 Best Filler Episodes, Ranked
Taking a look at the best Pokémon filler episodes ever created is important, as the anime spans over 1,000 episodes and has many different story arcs.
But beyond her relationship with Ash, this aspiring Coordinator of the Kalos Region was a fascinating trainer who captured and raised some unique Pokémon. But which member of his team is the best? It's important to keep in mind that Serena only captured and trained three different Pokémon throughout her adventures, so temporary Pokémon she borrowed from Ash and Clemont also counted.
7 Ash is sticky
A cute but very weak Pokémon
The dragon type Sticky is a cute little Pokémon that would fit right in with Serena's team. But this particular Goomy belonged to Ash, and Serena and Bonnie fought alongside him after their group was separated by Team Rocket clowning around.
Serena's interaction with Goomy was extremely brief, and the Soft Tissue Pokémon didn't do much to help against Team Rocket due to its cowardice. But she certainly had some interesting chemistry with Serena, and hypothetically, it would have been very interesting to see her training a Goodra for Pokémon Contests.
6 Clemont's Chespin
A goofy keeper who tried his best
In another episode, the group splits up once again and Serena ends up having to command both Ash's Frogadier and Clemont's. Chespin, the latter being the least heroic of this odd duo. He even became jealous upon seeing Frogadier trying to protect Serena, which inspired him to try to help in their encounter against some wild Pangoro, even though he failed miserably.
The relationship between Chespin, Frogadier, and Serena was very funny and made for some fun comedic scenarios, even if it was only for one episode. And even though she chose Fennekin as her starter Pokémon, this episode proved that Chespin's design and personality would fit in very well with Serena's team as well.
5 Ash's Frogger
A much more efficient bodyguard
In that same episode, Ash's Frogadier was also trapped with Serena and went to great lengths to protect his trainer's friend. The Bubble Frog Pokémon used its powerful abilities and Frubbles to restrain and distract the dangerous wild Pangoro. Frogadier knew how important she was to Ash, and it was very satisfying to see him spring into action just to protect her.

He's the most popular Pokémon trainer, but fans sometimes wish he wasn't.
Both Serena and Greninja are often considered the two most memorable aspects of the Pokémon the Series: XYso it was a pleasure to have an episode where these two characters could interact closely.
4 Ash's Pikachu
The show's mascot helped Serena impersonate Ash
In one of the funniest episodes of Pokémon the Series: XY, Serena had to disguise herself as Ash to fight a trainer, since the real Ash was deeply ill. The trainer in question was Jimmywho claimed to be the strongest Pikachu trainer, so Serena was forced to fight alongside Ash's closest friend.
This resulted in a very funny fight, in which a confused Pikachu followed Serena's orders, and he did his best to help her in any way he could. The two had solid chemistry, showing how friendly Ash's Pikachu is and how much potential Serena has as a trainer. This Pikachu showdown was sadly interrupted by Team Rocket, but this strange situation only strengthened Serena and Pikachu's friendship.
3 Pancham
The “tough guy” on Serena’s team
- First appearance: Episode 846
As a coordinator, Serena generally had a preference for adorable, more feminine Pokémon. But having a more mischievous and tough Pokémon like Pancham on his team was brilliant because these characteristics helped him stand out from the rest. Sure, he was still small and cute, but his personality was extremely different from his teammates.
Pancham is very playful and often pretends not to care what others think of him, when in fact he does, and is particularly fond of his trainer. Despite his distinct personality and moveset, Pancham was a crucial part of Serena's performances and helped with powerful moves like the Arm Thrust or Stone Edge. And of course, his signature sunglasses looked cool.
2 Silveon
A Pokémon that appears to have been created specifically for Serena
- First appearance: Episode 888
It is quite common for Eevee to be featured in all new series of Pokémon anime, especially if it coincides with the reveal of a new Eevelution in the latest video games. But the friendship between Silveon and Serena were a perfect match, as this new Eevelution feels like something that was created specifically for this character.

She started out as a shy Eevee who loved to dance but was afraid to show her talents to the world. Serena's encouragement helped Eevee overcome her shyness, which eventually led her to evolve into a beautiful Silveon. Not only did this Pokémon have some inspiring character development, but it also performed incredibly well in Pokémon Contests, where it incorporated its dance moves into its performances.
1 Delfox
Serena's best friend who has been by her side since the beginning
- First appearance: Episode 802
Serena chose Fennekin as his starter Pokémon at the beginning of his journey, and this was an excellent choice. Because of her adorable design and friendly personality, Fennekin fits perfectly into his team and the two quickly become almost inseparable, to the point where they begin to imitate each other.
Serena wouldn't be the talented Pokémon Coordinator she is today if it weren't for Fennekin's talents and drive to grow. The two learned a lot together and gradually improved more and more. And when Fennekin evolved into Braxenshe became even more graceful and powerful.
When Serena appeared once again during Pokémon JourneysIt was revealed that Braixen had finally evolved into its final form, Delfox, which proved how strong and talented they both became. Serena is synonymous with the Delphox evolutionary line and vice versa, and it's all thanks to the endearing friendship between this Kalosian Pokémon Coordinator and her beloved Starter Pokémon.
