Spice and Wolf remake will get a second season

After airing its final episode today, it was announced that the anime “Spice and Wolf: The Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf“will have a second season. The statement did not indicate a scheduled release date, but it is inferred that the same production team remains at Passione Studios.

It should be noted that This is a new adaptation (remake) of the light novels written by Isuna Hasekura and illustrated by Juu AyakuraSpice and Wolf (Ookami to Koushinryou)”, adapting the original content more faithfully.

Isuna Hasekura and Juu Ayakura They began publishing the light novels in February 2006 through the publisher Dengeki Bunko of Kadokawa. The work inspired a manga adaptation by Keito Koume which was published between September 2007 and December 2017.

The franchise also inspired a twelve-episode anime adaptation produced by the studios Imagineunder the direction of Takeo Takahashi and scripts written by Naruhisa Arakawapremiered in January 2008. A second season of twelve episodes was produced by the studios Brain Base and Marvy Jackand released in July 2009.

Production team

  • Takeo Takahashi (Ookami to Koushinryou, Maoyuu Maou Yuusha, Citric) returns as chief director of the new adaptation.
  • Hijiri Sanpei (Rock in the Yuusha, Maoyuu Maou Yuusha, Citric) is in charge of directing the anime at the studios Passion.
  • Kouji Haneda (Saihate no Paladin, PERSONA5 the Animation, Orenchi no Furo Jijou, Yarichin☆Bitch-bu) is responsible for character design and animation direction.
  • Kevin Penkin (Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari, Made in the Abyss, Tower of God) is responsible for composing the soundtrack.

Spice and Wolf Synopsis

Holo is a powerful wolf deity who is celebrated and revered in the small town of Pasloe for blessing the annual harvest. However, as the years pass and the villagers become more self-sufficient, Holo, who calls herself the “Wise Wolf of Yoitsu,” has been reduced to a mere folktale. When a traveling merchant named Kraft Lawrence stops in Pasloe, Holo offers to become his business partner if he will eventually take her to his home in northern Yoitsu.

The clever merchant recognizes Holo's uncanny ability to assess a person's character and accepts her proposal. Now possessing strong business skills and a charismatic negotiator, Lawrence is getting closer to his goal of opening his own shop. However, as Lawrence travels the countryside with Holo in search of economic opportunities, he begins to realize that his aspirations are slowly turning into something unexpected.
