A press release reported that the manga written and illustrated by Yura Urushibara“Tougen Anki: Dark Demon of Heaven“, will have an anime adaptation that will premiere in 2025 in Japan. The release also included a promotional video and the project's voice cast, but no production details.

For its part, Yura Urushibara The manga began publication through the magazine Weekly Shonen Champion from the publisher Akita Publication in June 2020, where it is still being serialized. The manga has already inspired a theatrical adaptation that was presented in Tokyo and Osaka in February of this year, with a sequel scheduled for January 2025.

Cast of voices

• Kazuki Ura as Shiki Ichinose, the protagonist who inherits the blood of an Oni. Shiki's life is turned upside down when he is suddenly attacked by a "Momotaro", leading him to discover his true Oni heritage. After this revelation, he enrolls in Rasetsu Academy, a training school for Oni.
• Hiroshi Kamiya as Naito Mudano, an instructor at Rasetsu Academy. Naito is a rationalist who despises inefficiency and waste.
• Koutarou Nishiyama as Jin Kougasaki, a classmate of Shiki's at Rasetsu Academy who is always seen wearing a black mask. Jin has a contentious relationship with Shiki, marked by frequent confrontations and disagreements.

Synopsis of Tougen Anki: Dark Demon of Heaven

Individuals with Momotarou and Oni blood running through their veins have a long-standing rivalry. The Oni are careless, reckless, and disorderly, while the Momotarou protect the human world from the uncontrollable Oni. Shiki Ichinose is a reckless and irresponsible teenager, self-conscious about his rebellion and even proud of his expulsion from school. Despite Shiki's rebellious attitude, his adoptive father, Tsuyoshi, cares deeply for him. Tsuyoshi's selfless love is soon demonstrated in an explosive incident when Momotarou bursts in to search for Shiki. A Momotarou himself, Tsuyoshi has been hiding Shiki for years and keeping his Oni origins a secret even from him.

When he gives his life to save Shiki and confesses everything with his dying breath, Shiki's Oni blood awakens for the first time, transforming him into a monster overflowing with rage and a thirst for revenge. Shiki's momentary outburst attracts the attention of Naito Mudano, an Oni teacher at Rakshasa Academy, an institution for young Oni who must understand and hone their powers. Before Shiki can avenge his father, he must learn to control his stubborn and impulsive nature and, above all, fight his own demonic blood.
