Success continues for viral lolis song

It's been a while since we first saw the music video for VTuber's song Ui Shigure“Loli God Requiem“, which immediately became a trend on social media due to its catchy melody and its lyrics which, once translated, reflect a very particular situation.

Ui Shigure is an independent YouTube illustrator and virtual singer who debuted in March 2019. She is best known for designing the VTuber of Hololive Production, Oozora Subaruin addition to having illustrated franchises such as “Osananajimi ga Zettai ni Makenai Love Comedy (Osamake: Romcom where the childhood friend won't lose)” and “WIXOSS Diva(A)Live“.

On May 21, 2022, Ui Shigure released her single “Shukusei!! Loli Kami's Requiem ☆“. At the time, the song didn't do much good, but in September 2023, the VTuber released a colorful anime music video for the song, which went viral. In the song, Ui Shigure sings about a “divine purification” against those who take an interest in lolis, mocking them with lyrics such as “if you touch me, you’ll be arrested” and “I never want someone like you to touch me.”

As Ui Shigure's song went viral, TikTok users in Japan and elsewhere began recreating the VTuber's energetic dance moves in real life and sharing memes about the unexpectedly catchy tune. But why are we talking about this song again today?

Well, it turns out that the video has just reached the 100 million cumulative views mark on YouTube.quite a spectacular number considering the type of music it is and the fact that it is aimed at an otaku niche.
