This article includes spoilers for the anime “Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation”. Reader discretion is advised.
This weekend one of the most anticipated episodes of “Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation“, affectionately known as “Roxytruco" by fans of the franchise. In this episode, devastated by his father's death, Rudeus remembers his parents from his previous life and regrets all the bad things he did to them. Roxy then goes to her room to comfort Rudeus and spends the night having sex with him.

After that and after starting his journey back home, Rudeus confesses to Roxy that he is married and that he is not sure if he reciprocates her feelings, but Roxy reveals that she had already been informed of this by Elinalise, and admits that she fell in love with him the moment he rescued her from the labyrinth. However, not wanting to interfere with Rudeus's marriage to Sylphie, Roxy is willing to bury her own feelings and move on with her life.
Realizing that he actually loves Roxy as much as Sylphie, Rudeus is at a loss for what to do, until Elinalize convinces him to take Roxy as his second wife, reminding him that his father did the same thing out of love. Rudeus asks Roxy to marry him, but she says she will only respond after he asks Sylphie for permission.
Obviously the sex scene between Rudeus and Roxy was one of the most anticipated moments by fans, but the adaptation has disappointed in this regard. In fact, some important details from Volume 12 of the original light novels ended up being omitted in this episode, most notably the conversation between Roxy, Elinalise, and Geese about Paul's death and Rudeus' depression. (and where exactly does the idea that “Rudeus needs sex” come from), as well as the moment when Rudeus talks hypothetically about his past life with Roxy.
According to fans, The omission of these important details tarnished Roxy's reputation.since there was no background about her decision to sleep with Rudeus and it seemed like “she only did it to take advantage of Rudeus’ weakness”.
- «In fact, the one who took Roxy to bed (original content) was Rudeus. Honestly, it doesn't seem so unrealistic to me that a man who is "destroyed" or even in a depressive phase sleeps to feel better. And no, this is not an excuse, no one is saying that this is not cheating.».
- «I guess Rudy is Paul's son after all. I feel a little bad for Sylphie, but at the same time, Rudy will at least take much better care of his harem than Paul. Poor Norn... How the hell is Rudy going to drop that series of bombs on her poor soul?
- «Rudy's "I think we're the same" as he touches Paul's sword really recontextualizes the entire episode, and I don't think enough people are talking about it.».
- «I liked her character and I understand why she fell in love with her savior. But getting involved when he's at his lowest point and knowing he's married with a child on the way is really annoying.».
- «As an anime I really enjoyed it, although I understand the argument of the novel readers to cut the content, but I feel that it didn't take away much of the overall impact of what happened and the feeling that both share and portray.».
- «Honestly happy that even with all the content left out, the anime understood everything that was happening and everyone enjoyed the episode».
- «I could have sworn that at first Elinalize told Roxy that sleeping with Rudeus would help her get over her loss. Then she basically forced him to marry her because she lied that Roxy was pregnant.».
- «I wonder why they stopped Elinalize's plan where she lies to Rudues that she got Roxy pregnant?».
- «I'm a little disappointed, they just ran at 10x speed, no dialogue, no talking about Rudy being depressed for over a week, not eating, not leaving the room, class chatter discussing what they should do, Elinaliese saying he won't do "it" all these things».
- «I loved the episode, I loved the fact that it took all this time for Rudy to realize that what he used to criticize and blame Paul for since he was a kid, which was having a problem with Paul for having 2 wives and cheating on his mother Zenith, was wrong and exaggerated. Now it's like Paul».
- «Some parts were really good, some were really bad, in my opinion. A lot was cut and a lot of things were changed for no apparent reason. The conversation with Elinalise changes Rudy's underlying motive a lot.».
- «Trash in my opinion. The whole thing about Rudy having three wives is horrible. This guy should redeem himself and become a better person, but he has been doing the same horrible things over and over again, except now he is handsome and powerful.».
- «It was okay. It didn't show the full extent of Rudeus' depression, believe it or not, Rudeus was mentally worse HERE than when Eris left him. This was different, he had become reclusive again. He stayed in that room for weeks until Roxy arrived».
- «I'm incredibly upset because they completely changed the context of the entire event.».
- «They didn't explain how bad Rudy was mentally. As if no time had passed. When in reality several weeks had passed. He was literally out of commission for several weeks, basically catatonic with grief.».
- «His friends were very concerned after having tried everything in their power and with their limited understanding (given the world they live in). They met up and collectively agreed that they should try sleeping with him as a last ditch attempt to get him out of his stupor. Talhand and Geese originally suggested Elinalise, who declined because she didn't want to upset Chris. Then everyone suggested a brothel or even Roxy to do it, since Rudy clearly likes and respects her to some extent. This lets Roxy know that Sylphie and her baby are on the way. But she decides to try to get closer to him anyway. During the exchange, Rudy almost openly tells her that he was hypothetically reincarnated and asks Roxy for advice, showing deep trust in her and that it was actually RUDY who initiated the relationship with Roxy in the bedroom. Although I'm fine with her being the one to do it to some extent. In reality, they just forgot to include important information about WHY everyone did what they did. The uncle had been away for almost a month and barely ate, everyone was desperate and rushed to try to get him out of his stupor.».
- «The content of the light novel chapters should have been divided into 2 episodes. But it wasn't bad».
- «Read the light novels. I knew what was going to happen. I smiled the whole time, people thought it would stop at just Sylphy».
- «I don't think it was handled as well as Norn's. It felt like a lot of stuff related to Rudy and his parents was cut out to focus on him and Roxy. Which is fine, I guess, if you really want a deep understanding of what the characters are thinking, the novels are better for that.»
- «Honestly, I thought this would be Rudy's 'Fresh Start' moment, where Roxy reaffirms why he should stay alive and focused and actually do something good in Paul's name, but instead, all the behaviors he started out with are excused and he sinks deeper into darkness.».
