The anime characters with the best eyes

The portal Anime! Anime! conducted a survey under the title «Which anime character has the most impressive eyes?», following on from a similar exercise carried out last year. On this occasion, the survey gathered 1,480 participants between August 30 and September 2, with results that reveal interesting insights into fan preferences.

This research is not a simple curiosity, as the eyes are a fundamental element in the representation of anime characters. Often times, eyes are not just an aesthetic feature, but can convey emotions, define personalities and even make a character memorable with just a look. For many anime fans, identifying a character by their eyes becomes a natural skill.since in Japanese animation the details of this part of the face are essential to highlight its uniqueness.

The choice to perform a lift around the eyes is not by chance. September 9th, known as “Masukara no Hi” (Masukara no Hi) in Japan, is associated with large, expressive eyes, a characteristic for which anime has become so iconic around the world. This date was originally established by a cosmetics company to promote the beauty of the eyes, giving special emphasis to the use of products such as mascara, which beautify this area. Just like in makeup, where the eyes are the center of facial expression, in anime they are a crucial component in capturing the viewer's attention.

The Anime! Anime! poll highlighted the participation of a predominantly female audience, as approximately 65% of the participants were women, while only 25% were men. The remaining 10% chose not to reveal their gender. Furthermore, the survey predominantly attracted a young audience, as 60% of the participants were aged 19 or under and 15% were in their twenties, demonstrating that the fascination with characters with striking eyes is particularly strong among younger generations.
