Barry the Chopper was once a humble butcher. When he grew tired of cutting up animals, he became a serial killer, murdering twenty-three people in Central City—starting with his own wife. After being captured and placed on death row, the Amestrian military experimented on him, alchemically strapped him to a suit of armor, and forced him to serve them.
While Barry may be a fun character with a funny personality, his story is dark.. Nothing but his own inner evil drove him to slaughter innocent people, and—as seen through Alphonse Elric's struggle—being forced to live as a suit of armor, without a real body and without the ability to even sleep, was a fate worse than death.

The first villain Ed and Al face Fullmental Alchemist: Brotherhood, Father Cornello embodies the corruption and abuse of power of the clergy. Using a counterfeit Philosopher's Stone to perform seemingly divine miracles, Cornello formed the Church of Leto in Reole with no purpose other than to build a power base. By offering false kindness, vast promises, and exploiting the fears, desires, and insecurities of those who followed him, the weak and selfish man built a cult around himself.
Even after Edward defeats Cornello and exposes him as a fraud, many members of the Church of Leto remain fanatically loyal to him and his teachings, waging war against the heretics who believed what the Elric brothers showed them. Father Cornello shows how easy it is to twist the hearts and minds of those who have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Fullmetal Alchemist Cast and Character Guide
FMA's law of equivalent exchange is well known, but each of the series' beloved characters is too valuable to be traded for any other.
Created to be the main villain of the 2003 adaptation of Fullmetal Alchemist, Dante is as evil as any of her manga counterparts. Arrogant, devious, and indifferent to no one but herself, Dante has a god complex, seeing himself above humanity.. Corrupted by her centuries of life, the body-stealing parasite believes that sacrificing countless lives to forge the Philosopher's Stones is a necessary evil to keep her alive - all so she can continue to protect humans from themselves.
Dante was once a kind and loving woman, but the death of her son and the abandonment of Hohenheim have driven her to moral bankruptcy. To Dante, the world revolves around her, and the manipulation of politicians and the orchestration of wars are nothing more than means to ensure her eternal survival.

The Pride, also known as Selim Bradley, is not only the oldest and most powerful of the Homonculi, but also the most evil. As his name suggests, Pride is a narcissist, seeing itself and the Father above all other forms of life., including its siblings. The pride takes great joy in playing with and killing humans, and sees no problem in killing other Homonculi if it is to its own benefit.
While Pride is as cruel as he is self-centered, his personality also matches the child body he inhabits. He is emotionally immature, deeply insecure, and fearful of falling out of favor with his father. Despite his opinions of all other humans, he even develops affection for Mrs. Bradley. He is just a kid who wants to make his creepy and unloving father proud, which is why Ed grants him a second chance at life after defeating him.

Wrath, also known as Führer King Bradley, stands out from the rest of the Homonculi in that he is originally a human. Bradley was born and raised with no other purpose than to serve as a potential candidate to one day be infused with a Philosopher's Stone, installed as Führer of Amestris, and carry out Father's master plan to sacrifice the people of the nation. Wrath is relentless, an absolute titan in combat, and dedicated to achieving his life's purpose. Unlike his brothers, however, he is capable of love, compassion, and forming real bonds.
With his ability to switch between pleasant, cordial, and terrifying in an instant, Wrath adds tension to every scene he's in. On his father's orders, he orchestrated the Ishvalan genocide and committed countless other acts of barbarity. Underneath it all, Wrath was haunted by the confusion of having emotions but having no understanding of them., unable to even process his feelings towards his own wife. Other villains in the series were born evil or naturally developed to be so, but Wrath was forced to follow this dark path.

10 Most Questionable Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood Stories
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is one of the highest-rated anime of all time, but not everything in its plot makes sense.
As one of Father's Homonculi, Envy is just as sadistic, cruel, and murderous as her siblings, but that's not the darkest thing about them. Although Envy told herself that she hated humans, in reality, she just wanted to be human.. Envy is a shapeshifter and uses this power to manipulate and kill humans. Most infamously, they used this ability to kill Maes Hughes.
They present themselves as loud, arrogant, and gleefully murderous to hide the fact that they are nothing more than small, weak creatures, envious of humanity's capacity for love and friendship. Mustang's torture of envy is one of the most frightening moments in Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhoodand their subsequent death is sad and tragic, as their lives end without them ever having known a moment of true happiness.
4 Solf J. Kimblee lives only to kill and destroy

Eric Vale |
Yūji Ueda (2003) Hiroyuki Yoshino (Brotherhood) |
The most prominent human antagonist in Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Solf J. Kimblee is a nihilist and a mass murderer, with no illusions about being anything other than a villain. Once a State Alchemist, Kimblee participated in the genocide of the Ishvalans, but unlike Mustang, Hughes, Hawkeye, and Alex—who were mentally destroyed by their participation—Kimblee had the time of his life. He currently joins forces with Father and the Homonculi, happy to help them sacrifice the people of Amestris.
Kimblee is the scariest villain in the series because of the way he contrasts with the rest of the cast. A significant portion of the main heroes of Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood are irredeemable for their past war crimes, and though they strive to improve, they flaunt their reputations and serve the same corrupt institution that branded them. In contrast to their confused feelings and actions, Kimblee sees the world and himself as they are. Kimblee knows that he and the powers that rule the world are evil and is happy to do his part.. He is one of the biggest monsters in the series and the character with the strongest convictions.
3 Father intended to sacrifice all of Amestris
VA English |
Japanese VA |
Kent Williams |
Iemasa Kayumi |
The main villain of Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Father – originally known as the Dwarf in the Flask – is responsible for nearly every injustice that occurs in the series. A being from the Gate lost on Earth, Father developed a hatred for humanity driven by his own insecurities and orchestrated a centuries-long plan to become more powerful than God. Manipulating the slave he would call Van Hohenheim, Father sacrificed all of Xerxes' souls to gain an immortal body and enacted the same fate on Amestris many years later to achieve his final form..
Seeking perfection and needing powerful servants, Father removed from himself the sins of pride, wrath, lust, envy, greed, sloth, and gluttony, and forged them into the Homonculi, his treatment of them akin to that of an abusive father. Responsible for the political machinations of the present day, using King Bradley as his puppet, Father is behind much of the corruption in Amestris, ordering atrocities such as the genocide of the Ishvalans and fueling war and conflict at every opportunity. Despite all the countless lives Father has claimed in the name of his superiority over all others, Father's downfall ultimately comes from a failure to believe in himself, and as punishment for stripping himself of all that made him human, he was reverted to his original form by The Truth, and cast into a dark abyss.

Is Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood the best anime ever?
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood has frequently topped MyAnimeList's anime rankings, but is it really the best anime of all time?
Despite only appearing in two episodes of Fullmetal Alchemist and a single episode of Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Shou Tucker, the Alchemist of Life Seam, is the most hated character in the series and one of the most hated characters in all of anime. Shou is a seemingly well-mannered man and a loving father, but just beneath the surface lies an amorality that leads him to commit one of the most heinous crimes in the franchise.
Although Shou had once been acclaimed for his work, his best days were behind him, and he was in danger of losing his status as State Alchemist. To avoid losing his career, Shou alchemically fused his four-year-old daughter, Nina, and his dog, Alexander, into a chimera, hoping that this demonstration of his theories would save his job. There is nothing nice or likeable about Shou; he is simply a selfish man who would sacrifice his own child for personal gain. Shou's apparent normality is what makes him so frightening.
1 The truth is a horror beyond human comprehension

All in Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood refers to the cosmic horror known only as The Truth. Residing within the Gate, The Truth appears before those who attempt Human Transmutation to punish them for playing god by taking something of great value from them. For Ed and Al, this meant losing their arm and body, respectively. For Izumi Curtis, it meant losing several of her internal organs, and for Mustang, it meant losing his sight.
When Truth confronts Father, she laughs and belittles the series' central villain for the foolishness and futility of his plan, before throwing him into the depths of the Gate, with Father powerless to do anything about it. Truth cannot be fought and cannot be argued with.. He is an indifferent god who takes pleasure in tormenting those who transgress the laws of alchemy. He is all-powerful, omniscient, and immortal, and acts only with cold reason, existing solely to fulfill his place in the universe. Although other villains in the series are far more evil than The Truth, his very being serves as a reminder of how small and powerless humans are in the grand scheme of things.
