The live-action dating game “Superscout”released on July 18, it received an avalanche of positive reviews on Steam and reached a peak of 5,231 concurrent players. This latest PC title from Chinese developer Mountain & Sea Studio is available in five languages including English, and has been praised for its beautiful heroines, engaging story, and slightly NSFW scenes.

“Superscout” is a live-action interactive romance game in which players take on the role of the male protagonist Shuai Ge. As the title suggests, you are a headhunter. However, due to past events that are revealed as you progress through the game, you make a deal with the god of entertainment to become a “Superscout”. This skill allows you to recognize the stellar qualities of each heroine and help them become the best performers. The downside is that the god takes all the money you earn in exchange for his superpower. Fortunately, the beautiful heroines of the game don't care about your finances.
The game features a variety of girls that you can meet and form romantic relationships with. Among them are Zhou Yang, a big star who is the protagonist's first love and the reason he made a deal with the god; a handsome video game streamer, a determined childhood friend, a former member of an idol group, and a physicist who loves to dress up in historical Chinese clothing. Players increase their sympathy rating with characters and seek to make them more famous to advance the story.
“Superscout” became an instant hit upon its release, peaking at 5,385 players on its first day. Since then, it has maintained at least 5,000 daily concurrent players. At the time of writing, “Superscout” has an “Overwhelmingly Positive” rating on Steam (95% of the 1,000+ user reviews are positive). Players praised the lovable heroines, well-filmed cutscenes, and captivating storylines. Most of the reviews are in Simplified Chinese, indicating that the game was very well received among Chinese-speaking users. Among all the girls in the game, Ye Shu seemed to be the most popular among critics.

The success of “Superscout” appears to be influenced by a recent boom in live-action romance games in China. For example, in 2023, intiny launched the romance game full motion video “Love is All Around,” which attracted tens of thousands of concurrent players on Steam every day and was well-reviewed. The genre’s popularity appears to be driven by web dramas, and “Superscout” is finding its audience in a similar demographic.
