With the end of the 2024 summer season in sight, members of a Reddit forum have begun debating what the biggest disappointment of the season was. While most users agree that the season has been pretty solid overall, with several series that have shown interesting qualities, there is also room for frustration with certain titles that have not lived up to expectations.

One of the users started the debate by asking: “What was the biggest disappointment of the summer 2024 season for you?”He expressed that, based on his personal experience, the season had at least some positive qualities out of every series he saw, but acknowledged that there were certain shows that did not live up to his expectations. The user in question mentioned “Narenare” as his biggest disappointment. According to him, despite the expectations generated by the trailers and the visual aspect of the show, the series did not fulfill the emotional and profound promises that it seemed to offer.
This debate generated a wide variety of responses on the forum. Some users agreed that they also found “Narenare” to be a huge disappointment, while others shared their own opinions about different series that didn’t live up to their expectations. Furthermore, it was predicted that many of the responses could lean towards “Tower of God” season 2 as one of the disappointments.given the follow-up it had and the expectations that were generated.
- «Our Last Crusade or the Rise of a New World. Season 2 was a notable drop in animation quality from Season 1 and has been delayed indefinitely. Hopefully it will eventually work out with the additional time, but who knows at this point?».
- «Bye Bye Earth: Female Protagonist with a Giant Sword in a Fantasy World with an OST by Penkin sounded pretty good, but the show was disappointing. It has some interesting ideas but doesn't explain anything well and I heard it got even worse.».
- «Shikanoko Nokonoko Koshitantan: Unfortunately, it wasn't as entertaining as I expected. They hinted that it would be a fast-paced, non-stop show filled with lame jokes every minute, but the final product is much more average than I would have liked and much slower than the trailer and advertising promised.».
- «I wish the deer show was as funny as the memes. It's not bad per se, but if you don't like "lol random" the rather flat characters won't do much for you.».
- «Tower of God, I left».
- «Rick and Morty The Anime: I'm not a big fan of Rick and Morty, but there were several episodes that I liked. But the anime, on the other hand, almost feels like a parody made by some fans and then their excuse for being mean is "well, we were just joking" haha».
- «Tower of God. I knew it would be bad because of the producers and the studio involved, I just didn't know it would be this bad. I've been reading the series for over 10 years, so I'm a fan. I ended up giving up on the anime. It was a bigger disappointment than Berserk 2016, even with low expectations.».
- «Dungeon People: At first I didn't like how the plot completely changed after episode 2... but I caught it over the weekend and now I can't wait for episode 11 haha».
- «For me, it was “A Nobody's Way Up to an Exploration Hero” / MobKara. I didn't expect it to be AOTS from the start, but I found the premise to be very interesting and fun. However, it doesn't really satisfy and the romantic tension between the MC and one of the other characters drags on, and none of the dungeon's dangers are that interesting.».
- «On the contrary… Fable was a surprise hit for me.».
- «Easily Tower of God. I managed to get through the beginning of the season, but now the writing has gotten bad. Not even in a comedic way, just bad. Like 2/10 bad. I was a huge fan of the first season and I'm struggling to get through each episode. Bad. Bad. Bad».
- «Tower of God season 2 without a doubt. All about it haha».
- «Tower of God Season 2. I really enjoyed the first season and was looking forward to the second. Instead, the second season felt like a completely different show, with a bunch of new characters, little (if any) connection to the Season 1 cast, and the viewer is kept in the dark for far too long.».
- «Why does no one remember me in this world. The animation was so bad. The show made the battles very boring».
- «Raising Children in Another World: I thought it would be a father-son relationship, but instead it was an adventure of three brothers. I ended up giving up after 6 episodes.».
- «Tasuketsu. I'm watching this with pity because one of my favorite voice actors had a role haha».
- «Dahlia in Bloom: I only had seven weekly ones (MHA being one of them) as I don't usually like summer releases. But this one was the one that got me interested on TikTok. Don't get me wrong, it's really good, but the animation is incredibly bad and the art is terrible in a lot of scenes. Last episode this week and I swear to god if I see that window again I'm going to explode. I like his character (although he annoys me a little with his excuses) and I want nothing more than for him to succeed, but it's like they don't believe in the story and it's starting to drag a little.».
- «In surprisingly non-disappointing news, Not Allowed in Another World was absolutely amazing. Wistoria is fine for me, but it's basic and pretty (I mean, we've seen this exact plot before) and I see a lot of potential in it, but Sensei and his band of goofballs are just adorable and the stories told are great.».
- «The only thing that could really be called something close to a disappointment is the fact that almost no one has seen Grendizer U – I wasn’t expecting anything in the mecha animation department before starting it and, well, there wasn’t much going for it either, but they made it passable. The main problem is that it has some weird interactions and a plot that feels raw and underdeveloped, like Grendizer U, the recent saga of the Vega sisters fighting over Daisuke lmao – I heard that’s not the case in the original story. However, I still prefer this to 75%’s isekai every season.».
- «Shy. I knew this was a weak arc in the manga and I was hoping it would improve some things, but it really didn't. It's not that different from other arcs, it just drags on for too long.».
- «I trim everything. I'm okay with fantasy anime being bad, but this one really disappointed me. I was enjoying the show until they made the MC so dense that he has his own gravitational field.».
- «I expected to like Narenare more than anything else in this season’s PA Works bonanza. Instead, it came in third place, but I still enjoyed it quite a bit. A few bugs and hiccups here and there, but not enough to ruin my overall enjoyment.».
- «Senpai is an Otokonoko. It was my pre-season pick for AOTS, but I gave up halfway through. It felt confusing as to what exactly it wanted to be, some of the characters felt like they were in different series. The overuse of chibi segments (no better way to describe it) also took me out of the scenes, and overall the art and backgrounds weren't that great either. Disappointing because the story itself had so much potential».
- «I'm pretty disappointed with Wistoria - I was hoping it would be fun. But the animation never lived up to the first few episodes, all the characters are completely one-dimensional and nothing of importance seems to happen. I feel like it would fail the Bechdel test, even if you expanded it to 'Any pair of supporting characters having a conversation that doesn't mention Will Serfort'. The writing is honestly completely uninspired».
- «Pseudo Harem bored me».
- «My dear friend Nokotan. As a lover of surreal humor, stoner comedy, and funny humor, this show was simply not entertaining.».
