On the official website of the anime adaptation of the manga “Dr. STONE“, it was announced that the final season will premiere in 2025 in Japan. According to the statement, This final season will last three courses (three quarters of emission, i.e. nine months), but each of them will be issued separately.

While this means that this final season will have at least thirty-six episodes, the fact that it will air in three distinct parts opens up the dreaded possibility of it being released “one part per year,” so that we could be watching the animated finale of “Dr. STONE” by 2027. If that were the case, what would be the point of starting with the “Final Season” in 2025?

In turn, Riichiro Inagaki and Boichi began publishing the manga in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in March 2017 and finished it in March 2022. The work inspired a twenty-four-episode anime adaptation produced by TMS Entertainment, under the direction of Shinya Iino and scripts written by Yuichiro Kido, which premiered in July 2019. A second season followed in winter 2021 (January–March) and a third in fall 2023 (October–December).

Synopsis of Dr. STONE

After five years of harboring unexpressed feelings, high school student Taiju Ooki is finally ready to confess his love to Yuzuriha Ogawa. However, just as Taiju begins his confession, a blinding green light strikes the Earth and petrifies humanity across the world, turning every human being into stone. Several millennia later, Taiju awakens to find that the modern world is completely non-existent, as nature has flourished in the years since humanity stood still.

Amidst a stone world filled with statues, Taiju encounters another living human: his science-loving friend Senkuu, who has been active for the past few months. Taiju discovers that Senkuu has developed a grand plan: to launch a complete rebirth of civilization through science. Taiju's strength and Senkuu's brains combine to form a formidable partnership, and they soon discover a method to revive the petrified. However, Senkuu's master plan is threatened when his ideologies are challenged by those who awaken. Meanwhile, the reason for humanity's petrification is unknown.
