Berserk: The Black Swordsman – a highly anticipated fan anime project from Studio Eclypse – debuted its first main trailer worldwide on May 17, 2024, to an overwhelmingly positive reception.

Via X (formerly Twitter) and YouTube, Studio Eclypse has announced the world premiere of the first Berserk: The Black Swordsman trailer on the evening of May 17. The action-packed and bloody trailer is approximately three minutes long and prominently features the legendary swordsman himself, Guts, though fans also get to see shots of Casca, Puck, and, very briefly, Griffith. X's post was simply captioned, “𒉭#BERSERK THE BLACK SWORDSMAN – TRAILER 1 (STUDIO ECLYPSE)𒉭.” The studio also teased at the end of the trailer that “The story begins in the summer of 2025.”

PLAMATEA's New Berserk Guts Release Is The Character's Most Intimidating Figure Yet

PLAMATEA is releasing a new figure based on Berserk's Guts, with the protagonist depicted in his bestial form wielding the Dragon Slayer sword.

THE Furious trailer follows months of teasers dating back to at least the end of last year with the first Berserk: The Black Swordsman key art, up from earlier this month with the latest key art for Guts, featuring the character dressed in his trademark cape and holding a crossbow. The anime project will be directed by Axel (@axxxlg) at X, with animators including @aledrawart and @chithunderpond series staff. The trailer will also be shown at Otakufest Saltillo in Mexico on May 19 – a fitting venue, given that both are rooted in the fandom organization.

Berserk's New Black Swordsman Anime Aims to Do Justice to the Neglected Story

Berserk: The Black Swordsman came as a reaction to the lack of a proper adaptation of the “Black Swordsman Arc” despite numerous opportunities, with CBR’s Berserk deserving of a new and faithful anime adaptation detailing the series’ troubled history. Fans can match this with Every Berserk Anime Adaptation (In Chronological Order), showing how many series after the original 1997 anime adaptation were often met with mixed to poor reception, leading fans to take matters into their own hands. In the case of Studio Eclypse, the creators previously stated that they “aim to create a proper 2D adaptation of the stories that have been neglected in this medium, starting from the beginning… This is a fan-made project with the utmost respect to the late Kentaro Miura, Studio Gaga, and Hakusensha.”

Berserk: The next trailer for the Black Swordsman released by professional cosplayer as Guts

A professional cosplayer of the “real-life Guts” is creating excitement on social media ahead of the reveal of Studio Eclypse’s debut trailer for Berserk: The Black Swordsman.

Dark Horse Comics translated 41 out of 42 total Furious volumes at the time of writing. The series is officially described as follows: “His name is Guts the Black Swordsman, a fearsome warrior spoken of only in whispers. Wielder of a gigantic sword, an iron fist, and scarred from countless battles and tortures, his flesh is also indelibly marked with The Brand, an unholy symbol that draws the forces of darkness to him and condemns him as their sacrifice. But Guts will not accept his fate; he will carve a crimson swath of carnage through the ranks of the damned, killing anyone else foolish enough to oppose him! Accompanied by Puck the Elf, more annoyance than companion, Guts relentlessly pursues a dark, bloodstained path that leads only to death… or vengeance.”
