Synopsis of The Eminence in Shadow

For as long as he can remember, Minoru Kageno has been obsessed with becoming as strong as possible, which has led him to undergo all sorts of rigorous training. However, this desire is not born out of a desire to be recognized by others, but rather Minoru does his best to blend in with the crowd. Thus, while during the day he pretends to be an ordinary student, at night he arms himself with a crowbar and mercilessly beats up local motorcycle gangs. However, when Minoru is involved in a truck accident, his ambitions seem to come to an abrupt end. In his final moments, he laments his helplessness: no matter how much he trained, there was nothing he could do to overcome his human limitations.

But instead of dying, Minoru awakens as Cid, the second son of the noble Kagenou family, in another world where magic is commonplace. With the power he has craved finally within his grasp, he calls himself “Shadow” and founds Shadow Garden: a group whose sole purpose is to combat the enigmatic Devil Cult, an organization born of Cid’s imagination. However, as Shadow Garden grows in membership and influence, it becomes increasingly apparent that the Devil Cult is not as fictional as Cid intended.
