AliceSofta renowned adult video game developer in Japan and famous for its popular hentai franchise “Rance”, has been generating quite a stir recently. The company has posted a call for developers interested in creating adult video games. However, what has really caught attention and made this call become a trend is one of the requirements: Interested parties must be fans of the married women (MILF) and netarare (NTR) genres.

Netorare

Netorare (NTR) is a genre within hentai and adult video games that generates very divided opinions among anime and manga fans. This genre is characterized by presenting situations in which a character, usually male, is romantically betrayed by his partner, who is seduced and supported by another man. This betrayal is not only physical, but also emotional, and it is often shown how the original partner suffers upon realizing the infidelity.

NTR is extremely controversial and often disliked by many anime and manga fans due to the emotional intensity and suffering it represents. The negative reaction to this genre stems mainly from the viewer's identification with the betrayed character, known as the "cuckold". Seeing a character you empathize with suffer a deep and painful betrayal of love can be distressing and generate rejection.

However, the perception of NTR may vary depending on who the viewer identifies with. For some, the prospect of the “goring,” a character who seduces and conquers the protagonist’s partner, can result in a fantasy of power and dominance, which could explain why this genre continues to have followers despite its controversial nature.

AliceSoft, by specifying that it is looking for developers who are fans of MILF and NTR, touched on a sensitive topic and generated debates in the community. While some see this call as an opportunity to explore and develop content for a specific niche with a loyal fan base, others see it as a risky tactic that could alienate a significant portion of the audience.
