Although the news occurred in 2021, it was recently discovered by the website Dexerto and went viral again due to the unique and moving nature of the tribute. Simon George Konrad Hill-Williams, a 22-year-old from the UK, lost his battle with cancer in the summer of 2021, but left an indelible mark on the Yu-Gi-Oh! community and the lives of his friends and loved ones.
Simon, who played Yu-Gi-Oh! since he was a child, was commemorated in a special way after his death. His tombstone, designed like a card from the Yu-Gi-Oh! game, is a tribute to his passion for the popular card game. This exciting celebration was held on Christmas Eve 2021, just days before his 23rd birthday.

Sam Render, one of Simon's closest friends, shared his memories of him in an interview with Bleeding Cool. According to Sam, Simon was a person who didn't care about other people's opinions and enjoyed life to the fullest. This attitude inspired Sam to return to playing Yu-Gi-Oh!, a game he had left aside in high school, but picked up again thanks to Simon's influence. Furthermore, he fondly recalled how Simon used to call himself “Tricksterking,” in reference to his fondness for playing cards with clown or jester motifs, which also reflected his clever playing style.
Meanwhile, Simon's mother Virginia Denley-Hill has commented on the creation of the headstone, which cost £4,000. According to Virginia, the family were impressed by the level of detail that went into creating the headstone, which shows Simon in an image of him looking happy, before the disease began to seriously weaken him.The detail of the stone is incredible, it is a true tribute to Simão's life.“, he highlighted. Additionally, Virginia explained that on the tombstone Simon has a '0' defense, because “he fought with everything he had”.
The tribute to Simon touched not only his family and friends, but also the Yu-Gi-Oh community, who showed their support and affection in response to this unique tribute.”The response was and continues to be overwhelming, much more than we expected.“said Virginia, who added that although it is a painful time for the family, she feels grateful for the love they have received.
Through this tribute, Simon is not only remembered as a young man who loved the game, but also as a person loved by many. His story resonated with Yu-Gi-Oh! fans around the world, who also showed their support for the family by donating to the charity Young Lives Cancer.a cause close to Simon's loved ones.
