From the creator of A KITE, Virgin Punk is announced

During the Aniplex Online Fest 2024 event, the director Yasuomi Umetsuknown for his work in “FOR KITE” and “MEZZO FORTE“, announced its return with a new original anime project titled “Punk Virgin", in collaboration with the renowned animation studio SHAFT. The first episode of this series, "Clockwork Girl," will premiere in the summer of 2025 in two select theaters in Japan.

Umetsu, who has received widespread attention in Japan and abroad for his work directing the opening and ending sequences of several anime, returns to the director's chair after nearly 10 years. He's also responsible for the original planning and script for this series. Shaft, the studio behind hits like "Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica" and "Monogatari Series," will be responsible for the animation.

During the Aniplex Online Fest 2024 event, held on September 16, a promotional video was released showing some of the characters' dialogue, as well as the action sequences with weapons and key terms that will be part of the anime. Although the cast has not yet been announced, it is expected to be revealed soon.

Production team

  • Yasuomi Umetsu (Bungou Stray Dogs, Dimension W, Kokkoku) is in charge of directing the anime at the studios STEMand is also responsible for character design and animation direction.
  • Yuuya Takahashi (Kubo-san wa Mob wo Yurusanai, TIGER & BUNNY, SELECTION PROJECT) is responsible for writing and supervising the scripts.
  • Yoshiaki Dewa (Jigokuraku, Yofukashi no Uta, Fate/stay night) is responsible for composing the soundtrack.

About Punk Virgin

In "Virgin Punk," the protagonist, named Ubu, is a bounty hunter who faces her own dilemmas and a series of intense characters in a story that explores desire and chaos. The plot depicts Ubu's suffering and the chaos created by the strong characters around her. The promotional visual includes the line: "Struck by repeated misfortunes, she has become a mere shadow of her former self."
