They criticize that modern action scenes are boring

In a recent interview, Kazuchika Kiserenowned director of “Ghost in the Shell: Arise” expressed his dissatisfaction with the way action scenes are being represented in the contemporary anime industry. Kise offered a candid and detailed perspective on the increasing use of CGI in anime, making his critical viewpoint clear.

Kise mentioned that while he doesn't hate CGI anime, it's not his personal taste. He commented that he prefers stop-motion videos that use action figures, which he finds truly impressive and can often be found on Twitter. He finds these videos capture the essence of the action more convincingly.
In contrast, Kise criticized the speed of action scenes in recent anime. He said these scenes are so fast that it's difficult to understand what's happening. Furthermore, he commented that the attacks in these scenes lack weight, which detracts from their realism. For Kise, fights in current anime don't seem realistic because, first of all, no one dies from being hit, which also means they don't seem painful.
Kise suggests that the intention behind the art in these scenes is more whimsical than a faithful representation of a combat in which opponents test each other. Instead of focusing on authenticity and realism, it seeks to impress with spectacular and exaggerated actions. These curious statements didn't go unnoticed in the comment forums:
- «It seems to me that this was an indirect reference to the production of Jujutsu Kaisen».
- «If the characters reacted realistically to successes, fans wouldn't like it.».
- «There are things that cannot be represented frame by frame».
- «I feel like current anime, when it comes to action scenes, just shows a bunch of lines and lights instead of characters moving.».
- «This reminds me of the second season of One Punch Man because they had bad animation, so they only showed blue lights in the action scenes and earned the audience's hatred.».
- «So you'd rather they move slowly and boringly? This guy is obviously too old to understand current trends.».
- «Camerawork should be the most important element, as should the arrangement of frames in manga. There are many strange scenes in some anime.».
- «Now is the time for many anime to start replicating Dragon Ball Z's combat style, which was exciting to see.».
- «Certainly, when you compare the fight between Goku and Vegeta and some of the current fights, there is a huge superiority in Dragon Ball».
- «Kazuchika Kise has a great career in animation, I think we can trust his opinion».
- «But many anime of the past were like stickman battles. Compared to that, the skillful battles of some more recent anime are a lot of fun to watch.».
- «CG animated characters tend to have lighter movements. They should pick up the club, put all their strength into it, and then swing it. But the character lifts the club, exerts force, and instantly brings it down. If there's no weight to the movement, it doesn't look realistic.».
