Just like what happened with “Jujutsu Kaisen”, the next chapter of “Boku no Hero Academia” was also leaked and immediately trended, as it is the last one. The latest chapter left many questions unanswered, Will Deku and Uraraka finally become a couple? Will Deku completely lose One For All and stop being a hero? Now it's time to review what Kohei Horikoshi has prepared for this latest edition.

Thanks to the leaks, the full chapter is finally available, and while this definitely spoils the surprise that would be revealed next weekendThis is what remains due to the fact that the manga is published in print and not digitally to avoid leaks, as is the case with “Chainsaw Man” and other mangas that are published directly on digital platforms.

Of course, it must be said that the reception to this final chapter has been mixed.but before we move on to the comments, let's review what happened:

Boku no Hero Academia

The chapter begins with Deku and Tomura's words at the end of the world: “You already destroyed it“,“It will depend on what you do from now on.“. Deku repeats the narration from the first chapter with some differences: “People are not born equal. Each of us is different in shape or form, but despite all this, we still care about others. And these differences, both internal and external, allow us to reach out to others and seek a point of intersection.“.

Kota enters the teacher's room. “Brother Mido… Deku-sensei, where should we meet for afternoon class?“We then see that Deku is wearing a suit and writing in his notebook:”This is the truth about society I learned when I was 17“. “That day I heard everyone's voice, and it motivates me to this day. If caring for others is the first step to becoming a hero, then everyone was the greatest hero.“.

We see Deku returning home and smiling at InkoAll Might helping Gran Torino walk, students taking tests and during the sports festival, Mirko testing a new prosthesis, Mt. Lady and Kamui Woods working together, Shoji and Koda shaking hands with a heteromorphic scientist. Tokoyami and Hawks talking, Aizawa and Present Mic in a cemetery (probably visiting Shirakumo's grave)Endeavor with his teammates, the students meeting Melissa, the League of Villains book being sold, Bakugo in rehab, Deku and Ochaco together in the snow with scarves, and Mr. Compress reading the book. Kota and Eri are also seen holding hands.

Boku no Hero Academia

I had the opportunity to live a dream that should have been impossible. The story that began when my body moved before I could think came to an end along with the embers of One For All.". As Deku says this, we see panels showing the embers slowly disappearing. We see some panels of the graduation ceremony and how they followed UA tradition. Bakugo and Monoma blow up the stage after Iida's speech. The narration says: "Want to know why I keep writing? Well, because there are still a few pages left.“.

Eight years later, we see Dai's class. The teacher asks the students what they want to be, and one of them says he'll be a hero. One of the students sees that Dai wants to be a hero and says he'll never achieve that with his gift. He also says that there are fewer villains now and that the number of heroes has stabilized, so only the strongest kids have a chance.

Next, we see Ingenium, Froppy, Creati, and Uravity visiting schools across the country, and the gift counseling expansion project created by Uraraka is considered one of the most essential aspects of today's society. We see a panel of Eri with her friends from the music club. Aizawa shows Deku a video of Bakugo yelling at a civilian for filming him too close. Aizawa says this will cause him to drop in the rankings, and Todoroki will be ahead.

Deku says he's barely seen his friends since graduation, as their days off don't coincide. On his way home from work, he sees official Tokoyami and Kirishima merchandise on TV. Dai recognizes Deku and tells him about his insecurities about the future and how he always goes to the All Might statue when he's feeling down. Can I become a hero like All Might and you?” Deku remembers what he asked All Might a long time ago and begins to analyze Dai's gift in his usual way.

Boku no Hero Academia

We see a text that says THE END, but All Might destroys it. All Might apologizes for being late. Deku says he could have met him at the airport, but All Might wanted to give him a surprise gift. The data he obtained in his fight against AFO 8 years ago opened up many possibilities.”Technology evolves, as do gifts“All Might says while holding a folder. Deku says it must have cost a lot, and All Might says it was developed by a friend of his from the US (probably David Shield or Melissa Shield) and Hatsume, funded by former Class A students.

We see Hawks working and informed about a landslide on a road, to which he asks some heroes to resolve it. Deku jumps with his support item and when he looks down, he sees Shigaraki's ghost. The final double panel shows all of Class A as adults in their hero costumes (Aoyama is included). Deku can be seen in his new hero costume and has support items that we can assume will function similarly to One For All.This is the story of how we will continue to achieve new goals.“.

This is how "My Hero Academia" ends, after more than a decade of serialization. What did fans think? Let's review the comments:

  • «I loved My Hero Academia, and it's been a huge part of my life for the past ten years. Is that why I don't think this is a satisfying ending? Maybe nothing would have happened. Deku's father isn't there, and the Deku vs. Uraraka thing isn't denied, but it's also unconfirmed. The last chapter was pretty good, but nothing has been confirmed yet. All Might appearing in literally two panels in the final chapter? Just to give Deku some technology that allows him to still be a hero, which is cool, but we don't know exactly what it is, and it feels like it was specially added two pages before saying "END." How can Deku be at his best if he hasn't worked as a hero for eight years?».
  • «Not to mention that even with the technological advancements All Might mentioned, it was established from the beginning that support items are only as good as raw energy. It also feels more like a consolation prize out of pity than anything else. If it had been specified that the suit would slowly restore the abilities One For All gave him, to the point where he wouldn't need the suit, I would have been more satisfied.».
  • «Yes, I don't want to be that person, but this is a boring and somewhat disappointing ending. While I understand why One For All was removed, since there's no longer any need for it without All For One, I agree with someone in the comments. Turning Deku into Iron Man is ridiculous; we don't even know what it entails or what it does; we've never seen Deku use One For All since 100%. If they were going to turn him into Iron Man anyway in the last panel, why not let a spark of One For All stabilize so he still has One For All, but is weaker, not stronger, but also not weaker? Also, All Might is notable for his absence, only making a cameo. It would have been cool to have a page where Master Deku worked alongside Master All Might, as if he wanted to work alongside All Might, just in a different way. No pairing was confirmed, which is a bit disappointing, but I can understand it a bit. I've loved this series ever since the anime started airing, but this ending was unsatisfying and didn't live up to the rest of the series and left me feeling a bit empty rather than a satisfying ending.».
  • «100% disappointing. Deku and Uraraka should have been confirmed as having a happy marriage, especially after the chapter where he called her a heroine».
  • «I find it funny that Hori had the idea of a long epilogue, but somehow didn't include All Might or even hint at how Deku compares now. And the world at large seemed to have forgotten Deku's sacrifice, haha? How did he become the number one hero, as the first chapter claimed? He tried to make a book ending and still messed it up. There was also a lot of flirting between Deku and Uraraka, especially in the last chapter, and nothing happened. It seems like a lot of wasted space.».
  • «This may be an unpopular opinion, and I understand that it's not exactly the point of the story. But is anyone upset that Deku simply lost his powerful Quirk to a guy he couldn't save and who died anyway? He had the potential to go far with everything he had in One For All. It would have been a spectacle to see him at full power. Sure, he's basically Iron Man, but the suit isn't immune to damage over time and will require money to repair for extended periods. There are many ways Deku could have thought of to maintain a Quirk. When Shigaraki touched him, perhaps the embers didn't disappear this time and he just had a fixed level of strength that neither grows nor fades. Eri appears to have her horn back, and if Mirio managed to get it back, Izuku too. Melissa is reviewing some material to help him.».
  • «I'm happy with this. I was prepared for the story to end with Deku quirkless. And it makes sense. One For All's purpose was to take down All For One. Now that that's done, the Remnants can finally be at peace in the afterlife. And I loved that they gave Deku an Iron Man suit like All Might had. That way he can still be in action and be with his friends. My only criticism of the ending... Where the hell is Deku's dad?».
  • «It's not very satisfying, to be honest. A very cliché ending, with no surprises, touching moments, or emotional payoffs to long-running plotlines (like Deku and Uraraka). A 6.5/10 ending.».
  • «I can't believe it's over. Honestly, I'll say that what My Hero Academia did is exactly the same as what Attack on Titan did. Although, did Horikoshi ever mention a sequel story?».
  • «I'm just sad that Shoto didn't have a single line again. He was the only one who didn't have a word of encouragement for Deku in the final fight, his own resolution chapter being more about Endeavor than himself. I think Horikoshi dragged his feet and avoided showing Dabi's death just to omit giving any reaction to Shoto for being the indirect cause of his own brother's death, while Ochako cried after letting herself be stabbed by Toga (whom she'd met twice before) hahaha, what a mess... Overall, Horikoshi's interest in writing about abusers instead of victims (applies to Shigaraki and All For One as well, and even Deku and Bakugou in a way) was truly the worst part of the manga for me. I'll still remember it fondly, but as someone who got hooked on the sports festival in season 2, it's really hard to swallow when you realize the author has no interest in writing about your favorite character.».
  • «I still don't like that he lost One For All... So they went with the original ending of movie 2, with him losing One For All».
  • «He doesn't have a quirk, but he can still be a hero, which I think is cool. In the end, all Deku wanted to be was a hero... He didn't want a quirk, he wanted to be a hero, and now he's getting it. I think it's a happy ending.».
  • «We have Batman Deku and people complain. Insults».
  • «Deku should have at least kept the All For One building part. I understand that it needs to end at some point, but it feels rushed and just plain sad.».
  • «Everyone's talking about Deku losing his quirk, but no one's talking about how Deku hasn't even spoken to Class A in 8 YEARS. This should be a time when heroes have "too much free time." But apparently, there's not enough time to hang out with Deku without any problems.».
  • «I'd be lying if I said this was bad, but I'd also be lying if I said it satisfied me. It's just an okay ending, honestly. It doesn't do the rest of the series justice, and this epilogue doesn't compare to the rest of the arcs.».
  • «Oh look, another ending to a top-notch manga ruined by a time skip to avoid answering questions».
  • «I hate bad endings. Sigh, it seems like all manga endings these days are like this >:[ I knew it was coming, but Deku lost One For All and it still upsets me. I understand that it makes sense, but… no. And the lack of confirmation from Deku and Uraraka is quite annoying, I'm not going to lie».
  • «The Boku no Hero Academia series, in my opinion, is useless now with this ending. There is no reason to keep watching the anime knowing that the ending will be so unsatisfactory».
