The ambitious project “Josei Dake no Machi (women only)”who sought to create a women-only city in an uninhabited village, was canceled after failing to reach its goal of raising 500 million yen (over US$1.46 million) on crowdfunding platform Campfire. This fundraising failure marks the end of an initiative that generated expectation and controversy in the community.

The projectled by a person identified as “An (あん)”, Its main objective was to ensure the safety and well-being of women, creating a space where they could live freely and without worries. According to the project description, the idea was to rebuild an abandoned village and transform it into a safe place exclusively for women, in an effort to provide an environment where they could fully live their identity and build a shared future.

Since its launch, the project has attracted attention for its radical approach and the uniqueness of its proposal. However, the difficulties in raising funds were evident from the beginning. Despite An and his team's aspirations, the lack of financial support was an insurmountable obstacle. The project did not offer any tangible rewards to backers beyond a simple thank you email, which could have negatively impacted its ability to attract donors.

The project's explanation stated that no rewards would be offered to prevent any form of exploitation of women, which reflected the team's commitment to the initiative's principles but also limited its appeal to potential donors. This decision, although well-intentioned, may have contributed to the failure of the fundraising campaign by not offering more concrete incentives to those who considered supporting the cause.

The project planned to begin relocation to the uninhabited village and begin construction of the women-only village once the funding target was reached. Unfortunately, a lack of funding left these plans on hold. Although the team behind the initiative was ready to act immediately, the resources needed to bring the city to life never arrived.

“Josei Dake no Machi” was conceived as a safe haven and utopia for women, an idea that resonated with many people concerned about safety and well-being in a world where women often face unique challenges. However, the cancellation of the project highlights the difficulties that can arise when trying to turn such an ambitious vision into reality.

  • «That was just a joke, right? To the point of canceling».
  • «I wonder how serious they were about this?».
  • «I was sure it was a scam, but will they really refund the money?».
  • «I value your persistence».
  • «This is beyond repair. The current system is essentially a crystallization of man-made technology.».
  • «You shouldn't promote this on social media made by men».
  • «Once again, men are ruining women's dreams.».
  • «If they care so much, then they should also know that phones, computers, and internet infrastructure were created by men. They can't use the internet; their only option is to raise funds on the streets, even though the streets were also built by men.».
  • «I can't say I'm surprised, but it's funny.».
  • «I think they read a lot of manga and really thought that if they said 'this is our new city,' they would recognize their autonomy. Ultimately, reading manga really does make you dumb.».
  • «This project is much more admirable than those who only complain on social media. As long as they don't blame men for the failure, it's a good effort.».
  • «Women today, what can they really do? They can't even cook or give birth.».
