Before successful video game films like The Last of Us and The Super Mario Bros., making movies about games with large fan bases was difficult. In 2021, Warner Bros. decided to make a film about the popular game Mortal Kombat.

The film did well enough to warrant a sequel, Mortal Kombat 2. Although the sequel has been in development for some time, fans will have to wait until 2025 to see it. Recently, actor Ludi Lin gave fans a preview of what to expect.

"I hope you guys are ready for the next one," Lin told Screen Rant. "We've been filming this one forever, I'm back in Australia still filming MK 2. I was here for almost a year last time."

Lin mentioned that the sequel will be "pretty huge, everything will be bigger. The story will be great." While details about the film are still under wraps, it is expected to be set during the tournament.

Karl Urban's Johnny Cage will surprise you

One character missing from the 2021 film was Johnny Cage, a fan favorite. When Karl Urban was cast as Johnny Cage, fans were thrilled. "Karl Urban as Johnny Cage, I hope you're ready because he's going to knock your socks off," Lin teased.

He also praised Urban, saying, "He really fills the entire film, he fills the role. There's a level of expertise he brings to the role and adds another dimension to it. I really admire actors like that who can take a film to the next level."

Along with Urban and Lin, the film also stars Lewis Tan as Cole Young, Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Mehcad Brooks as Jax, Tadanobu Asano as Raiden, Chin Han as Shang Tsung, Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion, and Josh Lawson as Kano. The cast also includes Max Huang, Tati Gabrielle, Martyn Ford, Adeline Rudolph, and others.
