A new rumor circulating on social media suggested that Yuto Suzuki Dias Sakamoto is getting an anime adaptation, with Netflix reportedly acquiring the rights to it.
While there is no official announcement, the May issue of License Global stated that Dias Sakamoto is officially listed for a 2024 release on Netflix.
It is important to note that there has not yet been any official confirmation or announcement of the anime.
Sources indicate that Netflix's involvement is limited to international broadcast rights, meaning the streaming service is not part of the production process.
It is not yet clear whether these streaming rights are exclusive to Netflix.
This speculation is fueled by previous patterns observed with other Jump titles, such as Masha and Undead Luckwhere leaks preceded official announcements by approximately two weeks.
The rumor has generated mixed reactions from fans, with many expressing apprehension about Netflix's involvement. Concerns range from concerns about the quality of the animation to potential release strategies, such as batch releases, which fans dislike.
Some fans also pointed out that the list only mentions Dias Sakamoto without specifying whether the adaptation will be in the form of an anime or a live-action series.
Dias Sakamoto is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Yuto Suzuki. It has been serialized in Shueisha's shonen manga magazine Weekly Shonen Jump since November 2020, with its chapters collected in 16 tankōbon volumes as of April 2024.
It is published simultaneously in English by Viz Media and the online platform Manga Plus.
MAL describes the manga's plot as:
Tarou Sakamoto was considered the greatest assassin of all time. Feared by many, he was at the top of the underworld until he met and fell in love with a woman. As a result, Sakamoto abandoned his life of crime and now works as a convenience store clerk.
Leaving his dark past behind is more difficult than Sakamoto initially imagined. Many of his former rivals and associates don't believe he's truly abandoned the business and appear hoping to eliminate him. Barred from killing, Sakamoto must find creative ways to subdue his enemies and prevent them from harming his family, his shop, and the small town where he lives.
