When it comes to protagonists and overpowered characters, few anime series do it better than Demon King's Misfit Academy Series. The series revolves around the tyrannical Demon King, Anos Voldigoad, who, after centuries of war between humans and demons, grew tired of the constant bloodshed and willingly sacrificed his life in the hope of being reborn in a world of peace.

What follows in his absence is the creation of the Demon King Academy, an institution created for the sole purpose of identifying the reincarnation of the Demon King. After two millennia, Anos is reincarnated, but to his surprise, he is reborn in a world where the level of magic, as he remembers it, has drastically decreased. Unhappy with his new reality, Anos sets out to fix this world, and his starting point will be the Demon King Academy. The series' cast has proven to be more relatable than most fantasy series. 9 Shin Reglia

Founder of the Unitarians

The right-hand man of the Demon King, Anos Voldigoad, Shin Reglia is the most powerful swordsman among the demon race and husband of the Great Spirit Reno. Generally calm and eerily composed in most situations, Shin is incredibly strong.

Still, according to Anos, he is a man of low ambition, as demonstrated by his faithful service to the Demon King during the Great War. Shin appears emotionless and mild due to his stoic demeanor; however, he has great affection for his wife and daughter, as he never hesitates to protect them whenever the situation demands it.

8 Lay Glanzudlii

The Demon Swordsman

• Premiere episode: Episode 05

The reincarnation of the hero, Kanon, Lay Glanzudlii, is a member of the Chaos Cohorts and a transfer student at the Demon King Academy. Despite being incredibly powerful and a pure-blood demon, Lay is relatively friendly and laid-back, an unusual trait among royal demons.

Lay finds the monarchist and Unitarian ideals tedious and bothersome and prefers to spend his time mastering the sword. However, due to his innate talent, he also grew weary of battle, having won all his battles. However, his boredom disappeared after meeting Anos, for for the first time, he finally found an opponent he could fight with all his might.

7 Emily Ludowell

Teacher

Once a pure-blood demon, Emilia Ludowell was Anos's class teacher. However, after she attempts to kill Anos's mother, she is transformed into a half-blood demon by Anos himself, leading to her dismissal from the Demon King Academy.

As a pure-blood demon and royal, Emilia was highly biased against her half-blood students, taking great pride in her pure blood. Unable to accept being anything other than pure-blood, Emilia's convictions are shaken to their core after her reincarnation as a half-blood demon, when other royals nearly kill her, and she is saved by Isabella, whom she had previously tried to kill. Her near-death experience further changes her perception of half-blood demons and herself.

6 Zeshia Bianca

Zeshia's first clone

A transfer student from Hero Academy, Zeshia Bianca is the only Zeshia clone under the direct care of her mother and creator, Eleonore Bianca. Being a humanoid, Zeshia's ability to express herself is limited due to the emphasis on her combat-oriented nature. However, Eleonore is teaching her more about how to communicate and interact with others.

As a humanoid, Zeshia is among the most powerful of her cloned self, possessing superhuman speed and agility, as well as immense magical power. She is capable of all this while maintaining an expert level of swordsmanship, as demonstrated during her altercation with Anos.

5 Misa Lliorogue

The Demon King Avos

Anos Fan Union president Misa Lliorogue is the daughter of Shin Reglia and the Great Spirit Reno. Anos's classmate, Misa, is also a cheerful and generally optimistic person who enjoys helping others.

Wanting to meet her father, Shin Reglia, Misa joined the Unitarians under the pretense of changing the organization's current structure. Despite her seemingly frail appearance, Misa is quite courageous, as she was willing to sacrifice herself to cure Lay's mother. Although she shares a split individuality with Avos Dilhevia, the pair couldn't be more different from each other.

4 Leonor Bianca

The Mother of Springs

Hero Academy exchange student Eleonore Bianca is a member of Jerga-Kanon's selective class and a classmate of Anos. Eleonore is also a humanoid created as a source side of Jerga. Despite being a humanoid, Eleonore is quite friendly and laid-back in a maternal way, as evidenced by her interactions with Anos and Sasha.

However, her friendly demeanor is more or less a facade due to her deep guilt over being forced to create source clones. As a humanoid, Eleonore possesses an impressive amount of magical power, which makes her extremely dangerous, coupled with her understanding of the magical source.

3 Misha Necron

Descendant of one of the Seven Demon Elders

Quiet and shy, Misha Necron is a direct descendant of Ivis Necron and sister of the Witch of Destruction. Compared to her sister, Misha is less assertive and withdrawn due to being labeled a 'magic doll,' which led to her being isolated and shunned by other demons growing up.

Despite knowing she would cease to exist on her 15th birthday, she still yearned to create fond memories with the people around her, specifically Sasha and Anos. As a demon, Mish is more than formidable, having already possessed greater magical capacity than most students before the entrance exam. Proficient in the use of creation magic, Misha's abilities truly shine through her observation skills and magical eyes, as she is able to see the thoughts and feelings of others.

2 Sasha Necron

The Witch of Destruction

The sixth-generation heir to the Necron family, Sasha is Misha's older twin sister and possesses the magical Eyes of Destruction, which have the ability to cause anything to self-destruct, earning her the nickname Witch of Destruction. Sasha is very proud of her family heritage and her own magical abilities, so she initially appears arrogant and somewhat aggressive when she feels slighted by others.

However, beyond her boldness, she is a competent and decisive strategist, as demonstrated in her match against Anos. Sasha has difficulty expressing her feelings and emotions, as evidenced by her initial treatment of Sasha, where it seems she hates Misha. However, the opposite is true, as she only tries to protect Misha. Her emotions become more apparent after Anos saves Misha from disappearance, leaving Sasha indebted and grateful to him.

The titular protagonist of The Misfit of Demon King Academy, Anos, is the immensely powerful demon king who gave up his life to split the world into four during the mythical era. Reincarnated in the present world, Anos discovers that the world no longer possesses the level of magic he left behind, leading him to enroll in the Demon King Academy. Overconfident, arrogant, and resolute, Anos possesses absolute power over magic, making him invincible against any opponent.

Beyond his arrogance, Anos is also quite calm and will only act in the interests of his family, friends, or subordinates. Despite being known as the Demon King of Tyranny, Anos possesses a firm moral compass and does not act indiscriminately, even though he has the power to do so. However, his methods of dealing with his enemies have earned him his infamous title. As the Demon King, Anos is unmatched in the series, with no opponent capable of causing him any considerable suffering.
