Japan launches an AI to become your girlfriend

The well-known Japanese dating app company, Touchlaunched its latest creation on the market: the artificial intelligence (AI)-focused video game called “Koisuru AI”This innovative game not only promises to change the dynamics of dating, but also raises questions about its potential impact on birth rates in Japan.

Koisuru AI delves into the dating arena with a unique approach, allowing players to interact with a vocalized AI called Ai. This AI specializes in memory, being able to reconstruct players' thoughts, habits, and tastes through conversations. The character uses this information to form text and then uses text-to-speech (with a voice base provided by seiyuu Rikako Aida) to communicate with the player.
As in previous video games such as Love Plus, players have the ability to influence Ai's personality towards them. From options like “innocent” and “tsundere” to “loner” and “princess,” users can shape the interaction to their preferences.

According to Tapple, the app aims to “simulate the process of building an intimate relationship,” with the goal of supporting and improving the chances of those who use its dating app. However, this innovative and highly personalized approach can have unexpected consequences.
Some critics suggest that Koisuru AI could negatively affect birth rates in Japan. As users immerse themselves in a simulated relationship with an AI, they may become more likely to prefer this virtual experience to interactions with real people. This phenomenon could potentially reduce opportunities to form meaningful real-world relationships, which could have a lasting impact on the country's birth rates.
The key question now is whether the app that seeks to improve dating prospects could also, paradoxically, be contributing to a decline in genuine human connections. Meanwhile, Tapple faces uncertainty over whether it paved the way for its own app's obsolescence by introducing Koisuru AI to Japan's competitive dating market:
- «My wife will only be inside a screen, but I look forward to the day when I can bring her into reality.».
- «Is this supposed to prevent further declines in marriages and births?».
- «I seriously believe that these types of applications are the real reason for the decrease in birth rates.».
- «Imagine that you think you are talking to an AI, but in reality it is another user who answers you without knowing it».
- «It's funny that a dating app would launch something as grotesque as this. It's as if they think we Japanese no longer need a real girlfriend.».
- «Maybe otakus don't need a real girlfriend».
- «What if this is written in the history books as a turning point in the history of humanity and AI, or a turning point in a future where all of humanity falls in love with AI and is destroyed?».
- «It's amazing that Taple is doing this - I thought it was a world I would never cross».
