This article includes spoilers for the manga "My Hero Academia." Reader discretion is advised.
After more than a decade, the manga “My Hero Academia” has finally reached its conclusion (well, not really, but the full chapter has already leaked). We mentioned earlier that the ending was not well received by fans, and now that the high quality version has been obtained and the translations have been revised, some opinions have changed slightly.
However, there is one opinion that remains to this day: the fans' rejection of Ochako Uraraka. Although it was a total disappointment that despite so much progress that Kohei Horikoshi introduced in the relationship between Izuku Midoriya and Uraraka, in the end it was not clear whether they were together as a couple or not.
In fact, much criticism was directed at the author, who decided to make a timeskip eight years that leaves the franchise's popular waifu in a much worse position. Midoriya himself explains that after becoming adults, it was difficult for them to coincide with free days and be together. In fact, since losing his Quirk, Midoriya is the only one who doesn't serve as a hero and can't spend time with his old friends.

It is evident that the fact that Midoriya has lost his Quirk makes him unable to function as a hero, which is why he decided to become a teacher at UA Academy. However, criticism from readers has been about the fact that even Uraraka, whom Midoriya declared as “his heroine,” didn’t bother to visit him.
The common opinion is that “Uraraka got rid of Midoriya after he lost his Quirk.“, and while it’s unknown if this actually happened, Kohei Horikoshi’s lazy writing leaves a lot to interpretation, and this is one of them. The ending isn't all bad for Midoriya, as after eight years alone and lamenting having lost his Quirk, he finally obtains an artifact that allows him to replicate the power of One For All (or so it's implied, once again Horikoshi leaves things unexplained) and serve as a hero once again alongside his comrades.

In fact, the suit itself once again leaves Uraraka in a bad position because although All Might mentions that all of Midoriya's former teammates invested money in making the artifact Mei Hatsume was responsible for developing it specifically for him. Fans then place Hatsume far above Uraraka, simply because of this action.

All of this has led to the popular opinion that “Ochako Uraraka turned out to be a terrible friend”for abandoning Deku for eight years, despite the great romantic progress they had throughout the manga's history. And the comments were not long in coming:
- «I understand that nothing will happen immediately, as they were young, traumatized and all, but brother, 8 years and what happened is that they broke up? Well, okay man, having warned that Uraraka's crush would leave along with One for All».
- «In Uraraka's defense, she wanted to escape poverty. Deku's recognition was 0, and he probably earns a teacher's salary.».
- «Without his Quirk, Deku is just another otaku, so Uraraka has lost interest.».
- «I always knew that Deku x Uraraka was a super bland ship».
- «I see people saying they had contact in those 8 years. They literally say Uraraka was traveling all over Japan, ha, they had good contact».
- «They think greeting him every Christmas means something. Imagine following the story of the number one hero only to have him become a teacher 8 years later and in 3 pages gain a suit of armor, hahaha!».
- «No, Mom, they're exaggerating like when the Konosuba fandom thought Aqua won by a "Thank you." Same lobotomy, tell this mom a little story».
- «It's not even confirmed, but I would say that the person who tried to communicate with Deku the most in these 8 years was Bakugou».
- «Deku is the gayest person on the planet because I can't explain how, with this WOMAN with a tremendous ASS, he hasn't gotten anywhere with her in 8 damn years. What a joke, for God's sake. I become Deku and bite Uraraka on the butt.».
- «Crazy, the one on his neck is Iida's, because Deku's mask is different. I WANT TO CUT OFF MY BALLS».
- «Uraraka was rotated among all of Class 1-A except Deku».
- «His friends turned him into ghosts for six years after he saved the world, and on top of that, Uraraka didn't even give him time because he's now giftless. The manga should have ended with Deku jumping off a building.».
- «I love how My Hero Academia chapter 429 ends by saying the heroes will now have more free time. But in the next chapter, they say they fantasized about Deku for 8 years because he was busy.».
- «How do you save the world and no one talks about you like they did All Might? Deku didn't get his own statue, he seems to be rarely talked about, and he has almost no fans, as shown at school. No one comes to him for some reason… Almost as if they don't care what he does.».
- «So much so that people fucked with Uraraka and Deku, but when he lost his powers, she and the others stopped talking to him for 8 years. Definitely EVERYONE».
- «The ending of My Hero Academia can be summed up as follows: Deku started the manga in a bad way and ended it in the same state. It seems strange to me because at the beginning he mentions "this is the story of how I became the greatest hero." And there isn't even a statue of him; his only impact was on society, which is good, but I have the feeling that few people recognize him or don't give him the credit he deserves.».
- «For those who deny Deku's a cuckold, just use basic logic. She ignored Deku's existence for eight years and is an incredible woman. Do you really think Uraraka read the Bible for eight years? And even if they left after the last chapter, Deku would only have leftovers from what half the class ate.».
- «Reminder that Uraraka in her universe isn't even that attractive. I'm sure Deku has had better food.».
