Their friendship seems strange at first, but Yoshiki has noticed a change in Hikaru's behavior since one fateful summer. The "Hikaru" now sitting next to him looks nothing like his friend. Even though his physical appearance and memories remain exactly the same, Yoshiki knows something is wrong and that the Hikaru he once knew has disappeared.
Upon bringing up the subject, Hikaru partially transforms into an otherworldly being who threatens to kill Yoshiki if he doesn't accept him, while professing his love for him. Overwhelmed by grief and unable to let go of his best friend, Yoshiki struggles to move on with his life as he grows closer to the new Hikaru. At the same time, strange events begin to ravage his village, sowing disturbing chaos.
